Post 85mm MAFs: SLP vs Z06

OK, I'm considering swapping out my stock MAF for either a SLP 85mm MAF or a stock Z06 85mm MAF. (I would consider Granetelli, but it costs too much.)
Any advice as to which one is better?
Or should I just port & descreen my stock one?
Thanks in advance for any repsonses.

I'd go with the ZO-6 vv MAF, It works good for me and 3 other people I know.

Not sure how much the Z06 maf costs but I would stay away from the Granatelli (way too much money and causing a lot of problems). I think on the older models 98-00 you can do the port de-screen job with great success. I did and it works great no SES or problems at all, and I could immediately feel the quicker throttle response. GMHTP just tested a ported maf and it got 5 rw on the dyno, not bad for a free mod. You could consider buying the maf ends ($99) and save your stock ones just in case, in fact you could return them if you find they don't work for you and you haven't lost anything but maybe some shipping costs/restocking fees.

Also, 331 rwhp as measured on the Gtech

Cool, thanks for the advice guys.
I just located a Z06 MAF for $100, so I'm gonna see how that works.

I have been thinking about this same mod. Please post any findings good or bad with the Z06 MAF.

The SLP MAF is actually the GM part for the 6.0 liter trucks with a different manufacturer name stuck to it, so I would think it is the same as the Z06 MAF, I would buy whichever is cheaper. BTW I got the SLP MAF info from the latest edition of GMHTP, they have an article on the SLP piece!

Ok, I noticed that the SLP MAF is calibrated specifically for the LS1. Would a Z06 MAF need to be calibrated differently to work on my car, or would it work just the way it is?

How much gains do you see with these and are they worth it? I see people having problems with theirs and figured I would just do the heads, cam, headers, exhaust, lid, and forget about the MAF and Throttle Body hassle. Would it be worth it if I did the MAF and Throttle Body?

The ZO6 MAF would need to be recalibrated to work optimally on an LS1. SLP's 85mm MAF is NOT just a truck MAF, it is a Delphi manufactured 85MM MAF that has been calibrated for use in LS1's. GMHTP will be printing a retraction of that article in their next issue. Don't believe everything you read and even less of what people say on these boards.
