6.0L Block in a 98Z??

I have gotten a 98Z roller and have located a 6.0L truck Iron block. I know of 2 people locally who have swapped these into the car. My questions are, is it true the stock intake, heads, ect. will bolt on??? And wil it bolt up correctly? I will obviously be building the motor stout, and a custom cpu is in the works now. Thanks for any info....

Yep, heads are all interchangable on Gen-III engines . Intake too.

The 6.0L heads (well, some of them ... depends on which application it was from) are actually very good flowing heads, but they have bigger chambers than stock LS1, so you'll lose compression. They flow, however, like LS6 heads! I think those are off the LQ4 or LQ9 (345 HP Escalade / Denali engine).

I believe that all/most sensors (knock, crank, oil pressure, etc.) are in the same locations between the 6.0L / LS1, but if not, then you may have to shorten/extend the wires from the LS1 location to the 6.0L locations, otherwise everything should bolt up and fit together perfectly, AFAIK .

If you have to buy an LS1 intake (to replace the truck intake) get the LS6 intake. Unless you're going all out and want the FAST LSX intake? (lots of $$$ though). What about heads? Are you planning on using what's on the engine, or upgrading / going aftermarket?? Again, LS6 heads are a good "bang for the buck" (esp. ported/polished LS6's) but there are really amazing aftermarket units out there too. Perhaps you've already done your research there anyway??

Best of luck with the swap ... definitely starting with a tough platform, that's for sure!!

They are completely interchangeable and would give you the ability to build a very stout engine. We have built many 370, 408, and 421 cubic inch engines using that platform. What kind of horsepower numbers are you looking for out of the new combo?

Re: 6.0L Block in a 98Z??

Im basically looking to build a 408, I already have the Fast intake, AFR heads, and a custom lunati cam. Im looking to get around 600hp from the motor, eventually pro-charge it also. I am going for a stock look but with a big suprise under the hood. It will be driven as daily as possiable, the car has a 10 point cage, but still maintains all the stock interior minus the shifter. It has full Sphoon suspension, chassis eng. subframe connectors, a mosier 9" rear and 4.30 rear gears. Going to run a set of Borget wheels and ET Streets for the rear. After is all said and done I'm looking to have about $30K in the car total.

Those horsepower numbers are certainly attainable with the equipment you have.

The only other thing I've heard of is the need to tap a new hole on the 6.0L block for the alternator.
