510hp LS1?

In your case there's a lot more to it ... wiring harness, PCM, all the sensors, MAF, TB, mounting fabrication, 1 off custom headers etc, etc ... if the $13K includes labor and final tuning, it is probably not that unreasonable.

If it was a complete swap over, Including custom mounts (Becasue I think its going in a truck) labor tuning (W/or without a dyno) and pcm and harness...thats another ballgame.
Re: 510hp LS1?
Well obviously I will need the flywheel, harness, comp, etc, etc, but I dont have to pay someone elses labor. I started this thread to find out how to acheive those numbers. I know I can do the build for less then $13k. probably half that including the cost of the motor.

Yeah give me $13K on my Z28 and I can do a lot with it. What can you do, say dropping a LS1 into a '87 Ford P/U?

Re: 510hp LS1?
I just dynoed 452/413 with my Absolute Speed Stage II Heads/Futral Motorsports FM11 (228/230 .576/.591 112) through 4.10's and heavy wheels. That's 520 fwhp if you factor 15% drivetrain loss. This is a VERY streetable setup, i drive it everyday with no problems.
Re: 510hp LS1?
510 crank hp for $13000??? That made my day.
Option 1: Stage II heads w/ an aggressive cam-- think around .575-.600 lift, full bolt on (Headers, ypipe, cutout and/or catback, lid, all the goodies), fuel pump, injectors, blah blah blah. Be fast, sound cool, have some extra cash too. Around $4000-5000
Option 2: bolt ons + 175 shot of nitrous and you're done. Around $2000
Option 3: Blower + bolt-ons. You're done, and more than 510 crank power to boot. Around $5-7000
Option 4: Bore & stroke + boltons. If you're handy with a wrench or have friends who are figure around $6-10,000. Way more than 510 crank power. Big block power, small block convenience.
Option 5: Viper. around $85,000
Option 6: Lamborghini Gallardo. Around $200,000
Option 7: 2006 corvette z07. ???
Then again, none of these options come with custom shiny engine dress-up!
HOWEVER! if you're not already starting with an LS1 fbody, you have to tack on anywhere from $4000 (factory replacement, no ECM, no wires, no accessories, no intake manifold) to $5500 (full ls1 crate engine, all the goodies included). So, that price isn't too unreasonable if you're sticking an LS1 into say... a Cavalier or light truck.
Best value: Buy an LS1 or LS6 bare block (they go for pretty cheap), bore it out to 382, 396, whatever size you want. Stage 3 heads, all the goodies, big cam, blah blah blah. Complete custom job starting from scratch would run around $9000 I'd say, and make big power.
You may also want to have a look-see at SLP's zl-402 series. 500 crank power out of the box, basically, where you go from there depends on your choice of cam and tune.

Re: 510hp LS1?
I've read about people paying big bux for like 470 rwhp 427 ci packages (without the extra 200 shot of "insurance nitrious") for lots of money...
The thing is, the engines supposidly would not require any extra maintence than a stock LS1 factory engine, and will pratically live forever at those power levels, since they eliminated any weak points that the stock parts have by replacing everything.
plus labor is expensive..
and about the LS7.. I dunno.. the C5R 427 bare block was already like $5000? and it wasn't finished.. you still had to machine it your own specs.. Same went with the heads... I'd expect since the LS7 is directly related from the C5R block, its costs would be comparable..
Then top it off, the LS7 is hand built at GM's engine shop, by one person only start to finish.... It would be interesting if they ever do release a LS7 complete crate engine...
Don't forget the LS7 in the Z06 is a dry sump oiling setup.. so you would also need to pay for that too.

Re: 510hp LS1?
I make 436/420 at the wheels, which is damn close to 500fwhp, and that's with a nitrous-friendly cam. Decent set of heads, a good cam choice around 230ish and intake/exhaust and you are there.
Re: 510hp LS1?
this will be in an offroad app only, therefore I would want an aggresive cam. What can I look for? I will have little to no electronics, only the bare min. A th400 trans, no electronics also. And a nice set of heads. Want to keep on pump gas. How can I acheive my goal? I am thinking about buying a complete motor out a wrecked car then rebuilding it with forged pistons and maybe some light weight rods. Is this a good route?
