5.3 heads budget build questions

I am looking at doing a budget build on my '99 Z28 and I am considering using 5.3L truck heads. Are these a good deal?

I just wanna find a set of 5.3 and then I'm gonna get them worked, what all should I have done to them?

$90 sounds good. You'll need a complete valve replacement along with porting/polishing to get these heads where you want them.

I've always had great luck with the Futral Motorsports cams.

I've done my deal of searches and seen you're a Furtal Motorsports fan. Which cam do you think I should shot for? I've seen the 114's, I want something that I don't have the fly cut the pistons to use. I'm guessing from what I've gathered that I wanna stay below a .600" lift.

There's no cam out there that I'm aware of that you have to flycut the pistons to use with the stock heads or aftermarket heads that have NOT been milled. My last cam was a .640 lift cam (F14 HL) and there was no problem with it at all involving clearance issues.

An F-13 is a great all-around cam. Nice lope (not too much) and lots and lots of midrange power and torque and pulls nicely to 6500rpm (peaks a little lower).
