5.0 or LS1????
ditch a 5.7 for a 5.0? ha... ditch a chevy for a ford? ha
if you get a 5.0.. you'll probably never see 13's again.. my friend ****in loves his 5.0, his whole family is full of mechanics/ford lovers.. he has tons of mods on it.. his best time is 14.3.. a stock z28 or t/a will smoke you

Are you still in Jr high? LOLIt is common knowledge that if you want to go really fast a 5.0 is the way to go. Aftermarket Support is amazing and cheap for these cars.
Ls1s are great cars also if you throw on some bolt ons and run low 12s easily. Also if yu get a 5.0, it will be an older car and might need to deal with problems associated with that.

If you know how to work on cars, it would be cheaper to make the 5.0 faster. If not, the LS1 is already fast and dosent take a master mechanic to get it into the 11s as a 5.0 would...
Id never EVERRRRRR take a 5.0 over an LS1... A buddy of mine had a 331 stroker, heads, cam, intake, dyno tuned, and BARLEY beats motor/motor in which im pretty much stock, he gets mabey a car on me. When i spray him, its not even close, it looks as if he ran into a brick wall... And its funny to see stock sounding camaro wax the 5.0 LX style mustang that rolls up sounding like the tasmanain devil....

Ok here is a small example... 93 GT. TFS heads, Cobra Intake, E303 cam, shorty headers, off road pipe and flows with 3.73's. Ran 12.8@109mph. Now sure its not to hard to get the 109 in the camaro, then I bolted on a Turbo (you cant touch power adder prices of the 5.0 vs LS1) car ran 126mph hitting the reve limiter 100' before the end, Changed the car to Spray later, ran 128mph. And i can bet I didnt spend near the money that it would take to get the LS1 to 128mph.
As for the, well we wont get into name calling, that ran 14.3 with alot of mods to a Mustang, Yea ok, light up another one. My Cobra 100% stock ran 14.1@98 mph. And it weighs just as much as Camaro's.
Its all in what you want. You can believe someone who says there brothers friends sisters boyfriends father in law has a nephew that had a friend that had a mustang that did whatever, or you can take it from someone that owns both.

I am an LT1 owner, but I still think you should keep what you have. You are familiar with your current car, plus well, you already own it. The LS1 is a wonderful engine and they respond so well to modifications. I am not a huge ford fan (I guess now I am due to the fact that the imports are all over the place and any kind of muscle car is a welcomed sight) Nevertheless, keep the LS1 car and have some fun modifying it.
Just my opinion

I have both cars. I got a Z-28 less than 2 months and have a 89 5.0 GT for 3 years. The 5.0 is a awesome engine with more parts available than probable any other car made. I have spent a least $9000 on my stang and it still has the stock engine with 143,000 miles and the paint is bad. I had to replace all the suspension components and the trans since it is a 13 year old car. If you get a 5.0 plan on a lot of wrenching and replacing about everything on the car. The engine and the rearend are about the only good things about these cars in stock form. However you can easily get 300 rwhp with a set of heads, cam, intake and these cars weigh a lot less than a F-body. If your want a very fast car that is easy to work on and has endless pottential get a 5.0. However if you want a much newer that isn't wornout and is a hell of a lot better driver get the LS1. I am going to be selling my stang soon. Tells a lot there.
nitrous
Just put longtubes, cai, exhaust, and a 100-150 shot on the ls1.. it'll do the duty.. and you won't spend that much in mods.. If your just lookin for something pretty fast for cheap.. that'd be the best way to go..
However, if you have about 5k-10k to throw in a drag car, definately get you a low milage late 80's early 90's 5.0 and dump some cash into heads, cam, headers, gears, nitrous, etc..
You do already own the LS1 though, so I'd think option #1 would be the best
Good Luck

Just wait untill you get your 5.0 and mod the hell out of it. Cause you will be getting beat down by bolt on ls1s. Then you will really be hurting when you line up against a H/C f-body. Im a big NO for the 5.0!!! I have watched my friend buy a gt-40 crate motor and put on all the bolt'ons into his 86 gt. It is not nearly impressive as I would have thought. He was aiming for 400hp N/A. He dynoed at 233hp(w/ ~$7000 in parts) and is bolting on a 100 shot now. He can take a LT1 by a couple cars. Make sure you know what you are getting into and have a combo that WILL WORK. Good luck!
Gt-40 grate motors have there heads which suck. What kind of power you get out of a 5.0 all depends on having the right combo. For the money Trick Flows twisted wedge heads are great. That along with the stage one cam and a intake and have your fuel system and ignition upgraded and you should have 300 rwhp. 233 rwhp with a grater motor is pretty awful. My stock 5.0, underdrive pulleys being and K&N conical filter being the only mods to give any more power dynoed 3 months ago at 203rwhp and 268 torq. The problem in getting a 5.0 is your getting a old car. For the past 2 years I wanted to have my engine built up but ended up having to replace every damm part on the car since the whole suspension was shot and was very scary to drive on the highway. If your aren't a home garage mechanic then get the LS1. I would like to have the space and tools and knowledge to build me a nice motor but I don't so I got a new Z-28. No more stress dealing with a older wornout car that's falling apart all the time. Mosty minor stuff though. No problems with these engine's which can easily lasts 200,000 and that's dragging them car all the time. They sure can take a beating. Next time your at a news stand pick up a issue of 5.0 and Superfords or MuscleMustangs and fast fords. I get both mags and there are cars all the time in the there with 400-600+ rwhp.

Not much would take you in a nitroused LS1, for a 5.0 to get where the LS1 would be with a 100-150shot, the 5.0 motor would have to be built up pretty good, at least $6000 into it to even get it running with an LS1 motor/motor.. And thats just the engine, you would prolly have to upgrade the fuel pump and transmission also...
OMG! Don't even consider getting rid of your LS1 for a Ford! ....well, unless you plan on gutting the Ford and dropping in an LS1. Then I suppose that would be somewhat acceptable. But seriously, nothing even compares.

FWIW, it doesn't take all that much into a mustang to hang with or beat nitrous fed LS1s. You may or may not have heard of Dan Simmons, but he took a 5.0 with stock ported heads, stock ported intake, stock cam and went 10.60s with an Incon twin turbo kit.
Twin turbo's on a stock 5.0 block is like driving around with a stick of dynamite. The stock block can handle I believe 500 hp at the flywheel. You would be highly advised to get a much stronger block for that. I thought for a long time about having a engine built for my stang and it would costs at least $4000 in just parts. You can't just slap on a set of heads and cam and intake and go. Add all the little but very important things and the amount of $$ really go up. You can go the longblock route and get a DSS 306 with Twisted wedge heads for about $6000. Add intake the fuel system and ignition and exhaust to support all this and that's another $1000-1500+. Then figure in having rear gears done at $400-600 and have some 31spline axles installed along with a different differential so the rear won't blowup under your 5000rpm clutch drops with slicks, which you would need to get the power to the ground. Then the trans would blowup since t-5's are weak. So you would want a auto trans if you want major power. That's another $3500+ for everthing. What I just said only points to you if you want a drag car. Get the LS1 and not have to deal with all the stress.
If you get a 5.0 with a manual T-5 tranny the FIRST thing you have to do is pull that tranny out and replace it with a TKO tranny. The T5 is weak, weak, weak! I had a friend break 3 of them before finally upgrading to a TKO which he's going to get back from the shop next week.
