4L60E OD slip??

Went to WOT while doing 60-65 mph in Overdrive and noticed a .5-1.0 sec delay in tranny response. I haven't seen any delay or slip while in regular D. I've also used some throttle to pass in OD and had never seen this before (never really gunned it though). Is the delay due to an electronic downshift and therefore expected or is it a legitimate cause for concern (slippage)? Has anyone else seen this before? Is it to be expected from the A4?? Any insight would be much appreciated. Thanx.

I think I know what you mean, and I've had that happen a couple times with my car too. I've only ever noticed in OD, while on the highway, I've stepped on it, and it feels like it shifts (or maybe the torque converter comes out of lock-up) but then it doesn't really accelerate --- it just sorta "coasts" along for a second doing nothing. Obviously if I've stepped on it, I want to get going, so I get pi$$ed off, let off the gas, then jamb it again and it's always jumped into passing gear (2nd/3rd depending on speed) and taken off at that point, but it has freaked me out a little. Since I've got the 2.73's though, sometimes, depending on traffic, I'll drive in D(rive) on the highway, and I've never experienced the same problem..............it only seems to do that when in Over-Drive.

Also, I've had a few times where, if I'm driving on city streets (at slower-than-highway speeds) in OD, it'll act stupid if I punch it to ~3/4 throttle instead of full-throttle --- I've found that it'll come out of lock-up and downshift, but then shift right back into 4th, but stay out of lock-up (that's what it seems like anyways??) so I've really grown to hate driving in OD unless I'm just cruising on the highway, so I typically drive in D.

I'm not sure if there's anything that can be done to correct the problem, or if it's all to do with the (f'ing ) computer controls, but I know it's made me regret getting the automatic a couple of times. I am planning on getting a set of 3.73's for the car one day though, which may change the RPM's at normal driving speeds, and maybe curb that problem a little.................also, I would like to have a shift-kit installed one day, and maybe that would clean up the shifts more too??

Sorry I couldn't tell ya what to do to fix the problem, but at least you're not (and I'm not) alone.

BTW: what gears do you have?? 2.73's or 3.23's??

thnkx for the info Capn Pete. It's good to know I'm not the only one to have experienced this. It happened just like you explained. Except I kept my foot on the throttle and eventually it went into passing gear (I think I hit the rev limiter then the back of my seat ).

I'll go with the old "Doc it hurts when I do this ... well don't do that" solution and not punch it in OD. It seems to only be a problem if you go to full or near full throttle. I eased in the throttle tonight at about 70 and didn't notice any lag, it went right into passing. Hmm go figure?

RE: gears, wasn't sure but I put a post on another board and everyone informed me that the Auburn Differential came with 3.23s.
