Cool 4:10 Gears

For my first mod under 500.00 I would like to install 4:10 gears. Everyone boasts on the performance increase off the line. I can only spend about $500.00/month on mods so I have to pick them carefully. I have a shop 200 miles away that can install anything. I just have to bring EVERYTHING they will need with me. I only need the GM gear kit which is about 350.00 for everything so the ad says. Does anyone know of any better prices. Should I mod something else first?
This is for street racing. We have a 3mile straight road by my house that everyone runs on.

4:10s will REALLY wake it up! Just remember to set another $360 aside to get the HPP3 your going to need to correct your Speedometer and Odometer with the higher gears...

I'm also thinking about adding 4:10 gears. I rarely use 5th let alone 6th on my M6. I see these gears as a way to improve lower end torque and allow 5th/6th to be more streetable. Another post in LS1 tech reports that gears don't hold up. While I know a whole different rear end would be better, I'd rather stay with what I have. Any comments on the durability of the 4:10 gears? (I'd like to think that some of the performance and durability is based on who sets them for you) Thanks in advance for your opinions.

4.10s with traction will mostly likely destroy your rearend. If you decide to change gears, don't get hpp3 get LS1_edit. It can do alot more for you than the HPP3 can.

LS1 edit is $550 with software and the cable for use on one car. (1 VIN number) Yes you do need a laptop which can be had on eBay for cheap. Just ordered LS1 edit and the waiting list is 3 weeks!

Ok for your first mod. Don't do gears. Do a new shifter. Its cheaper and you will have money to spear...Acuatully shifter and subframes. when you get down to it you will STILL have money to blow. Shifter,subframes,LCA's... that should do it for your first mod errr modds...Gears are great but not for the first mod.

Mods? I think it would be easyer for me just to list the things that aren't changed in the car.
