Re: 3rd to 4th gear

If I understand you correctly you're saying that when you're at WOT in 3rd gear the revs go up and it shifts into 4th gear?

That sounds pretty normal to me, automatic transmissions shift on their own and if you've really got your right foot into it the trans won't shift until the upper end of the RPM range

Ya, all I read there was that when your WOT, it raps out 3rd and continues on to 4th.....that seems like the logical thing to happen when 3rd is done.

Re: 3rd to 4th gear

Ummmm....try to avoid WOT 3>4 shifts as the trans is probably at its weakest for this. It's a huge load you're putting on the 3>4 clutch pack combined with the fact that the factory PCM does NOT have any torque management built in to this shift unlike the other upshifts.

Something still seems a little fishy though. Either you're not really WOT shifting 3>4 or you don't have 2.73 gears because WOT in 3rd gear at 6,000 rpms is ~163 mph. I don't think you're going that fast...

Re: 3rd to 4th gear

Ok, well, I'll chime in here. I really DID take my car to ~6000 RPM in 3rd gear with the factory 2.73's. At that speed, it would NOT shift into 4th, unless I let off the throttle a little bit, and it would then drop into 4th. Problem being, you lose speed REALLY quick when you're going that fast! So then to accelerate you have to really push down on the throttle again, which would force a downshift back to 3rd, and bring it back up to redline again. AGAIN, it wouldn't shift into 4th or accelerate any further ... it just held there at the top of 3rd gear (at ~165 mph).

BUT, with 3.73's/4.10's in the car, it WILL upshift 3rd - 4th at WOT. Perhaps I was running my car slightly uphill with those 2.73's, and there was too much load to make it shift into 4th?? But any day, any time, it would shift into 4th at WOT w/4.10's. NOT RECOMMENDED though!!!

Re: 3rd to 4th gear

I agree on the shifting into overdrive at WOT- the tranny is not designed to handle that. It is definitely the weakest. As far as it being a t a high rpm, your question answers itself- it is suppose to shift when it reaches that point. Are you saying it slips prior to going to gear? Alittle more info will get you a better answer.
