Is the 2001 model LS1 transam a good year?

I am looking into trading my 1994 Pontiac Firebird Formula A4 LT1 car in for a 2001 Pontiac Transam. The car is a 3.23 A4 car. Is the 2001 a good year for the LS1. The dealer wants $15,550 for the car. It only has 59,000 miles on it. Do you think this car will run maybe some mid 13's in the 1/4 with traction. It is bone stock. Also, what are the average dyno numbers for 2001 A4 car. Thanks, I am so excited about getting a LS1 car.

I think they put about 280-290 RWHP, 2001 and 2002 are the best years because they have the different cam and a LS6 intake IIRC.

'01's have benefits over the previous years, LS6 intake, no EGR, etc. Mid 13's shouldn't be a problem at all.

Meaning A4 in the lower numbers and M6 in the higher numbers. (generally that is) some people get lucky and grab a 310sh A4 and some unfortunates grab a 290ish M6

Actually, the '01 has the smallest cam. It's the heads, intake, and exhaust manifolds that are better.

Many do 300 rwhp stock.

I know the 01s and 02s do have the LS6 intake, better heads, exhaust manifolds. The bad thing is smaller cam and injectors if I remember correctly.

I am surprised no one told Jeremy that that is not such a good price for an 01 fbody with that much mileage on it. I mean i don't want to be so bold by saying this, but i think the dealer would be making a good profit off of you if you buy that car. Maybe its just NJ, but i find tons of fbodies in good shape that are even used 02 models that are the 8 cylinder engines for less than that. I am just saying, if you wait, i am sure you can even find a nicer fbody than that with even a lot lwer mileage. Just my opinion. I find you get the best results when you wait it out a little. But i am sure thats hard to do when you are on the verge of buying a new fbody.

I'll second what RedBandit said. I am not expert on the LS1 engine details and year changes, but I do agree that there are better deals to be found than that one. I would figure out what year(s) you would prefer and search elsewhere.

If it's in really good shape, I think that's a fair price. They will more than likely come down some if you're serious about buying it (cash in hand). It's getting harder and harder to find a NICE LS1 car. There are plenty of ragged out, trashed LS1 cars for sale. Finding a nice one is the hard part. I firmly believe that's it is almost always worth it to pay extra for a nicer car. The good cars aren't that much more expensive than the abused ones, and as far as abused cars go, we know which one will be more expensive in the long run.
