2000 Z-28 check engine light on

Hi All, my 2000 z-28 ck. eng. light is on ! Ive had car since Oct 99 and I just made 97,000 miles.Still runs pretty good ,except now from a dead stop , it kinda hesitates ,for a couple of seconds then.......Bam takes off like a Z should. Mind you Ive never had a tune up, never changed anti freeze ,and changed fuel filter about 3-4 yrs ago.about 5 yrs ago one of my cat-convts went bad and a friend at the dealership changed it under the 6/60 warranty! any suggestions?

I would do the fuel filter and a tune up at the very least. Get the code read and see if it leads you to your problem. I would replace a few things and clean and check others. Not sure what all you have done, as far as maintenance over the years.

Before you start replacing parts, get the code read. Auto parts stores (most states) will do it for free. When they scan it, write down the full Pxxxx code(s). Don't trust them to tell you what the code means. You can buy an OBD-II code scanner for less the $50 and scan it yourself.

And, let's move this to the LS1 Engine forum. It's not really an "Advanced Tech" topic.

I cleaned my maf sensor and it helped years ago. It was extremely dirty and that was one thing I never knew you could do until I was on here. Things like air cleaner if dirty and your oil, rear end fluid, coolant, transmission fluid and pcv valve are a few things to replace that I did after buying my car.

Had the same problem, if it shifts hard, idols erratically, check your throttle position sensor thats what my problem was. Hope it works.
