2000 Trans Am LS1
What a coincidence--
I own both a 94 Z28 (far from stock) and a 01 Z28 (nearly stock). And yes I too can see a difference in the off the line power. The LT1 is very torquey on the low end. I would rip my tires loose through almost all of 1st and then again once I shifted to 2nd. It's also true that the LS1 has more high end power and slightly less initial torque. But it's better to have a little less torque on the low end so you can hook up better and keep that power going the whole way down the track. I used to race my friend's 2000 SS at the track with my 94 and we would almost jump out together because he would have a perfect launch with his foot to the floor instantly and I would be fighting for traction for the first 60 feet. But if ever I did get the jump ahead, that LS1 would reel me in so fast I'd look stupid. You are way better off with the LS1.
BTW, try racing your bro on the freeway starting from about 55-60mph. Then you'll be thrown back in YOUR seat while he's waaaay back there trying to figure out what just happened.

Race him from anything more than 0-30 and you'll smoke him. The LT1 Z28 with an auto puts out 230 HP to the wheels and the 1998-2000 LS1 puts out 280 with an auto. 2001-2002 puts out 290 for an auto to the wheels! By the way...the tq. diffewrence isn't as big as you may think
And the LS1 still has a lot more total tq...specially the 2001-2002 which was uprated to 375
