Question 2000 Trans Am LS1

I just bought a 2000 Trans Am and it feel like it has no power off the line.... I does not even spin it's tires. What I want to know is this normal? My Little brother has a 94 Camaro Z28 and it feels it has alot of power off the line. just so you know it it a 2000 ta with a LS1 motor without Ram Air. if I step on it after I am moving it has alot of power. My brother said it should be like that he heard that LS1 has less power off the line but has a higher top end. is this true..... by the way just incase you have not noticed it is Automatic.

and if is like this how whould i pick up the bottom end?

Something's not right....that car should be able to haze the tires pretty easily.

It's called no rear gear and no mods.

Put you a 3.73 back there, do the free mods, get you a lid, and get you one of my Diablo Predators!

Regardless of mods...a stock LS1 in good running shape has no trouble hazing the tires.

I have a stock 02 Z, generally the LS1's dont start digging till about 3500 rpm. You should be spinning rather easily, maybe traction control is on.

I have an 02 Z28 (6spd) and the wheels spin but not as much because of the performance tire option i have. Perhaps you have the same. Also I have heard that the newer F-Bodies have better traction and dont spin as much as a LT1 did.

My 2001 Z28 wouldn't break the tires loose very easily. It was an A4 with 2.73 rear. I'm assuming that yours is the same.

You want to smoke the tires? 3.42 (or 3.73 if you have *****) and a 3000 stall torque converter.

My 98 TA when stock would send the tires up in a puff with no problem. I'm not running anything super-sticky, just Eagle GS-C's for now (till I get my Firestone Firehawks), but tire spinning was not a problem coming off the line hard. 1st and 2nd would both smoke the $hit out of the tires.

well the easiest way to find out if you have traction control is to look for the button if you dont have the button i believe it says TCS on if then you dont have it other than that for a while when i had tires that had good tread my 98 would not spin them up either but you cant compare to a 97 or less cause the lt1 has a different torwue curve than a ls1 the lt1s curve is more spread out where as the earlier ls1 ie 98-00 have more of a top end curve but the 01-02 have a better curve due to the intake off the ls6 and a different cam that was changed to give it more low end torque. but if you want to roast them get the converter but look at it like i do and you can take off quicker without wheel spin my buddys lt1 i could take off the line all the time cause he would just spin.

Something is wrong with that car. You should be able to smoke those damn tires. Even with an A-4 and 2.73's. Performance tire option? GS-C's spin just as easily as an RSA. You should be able to spin the tires with drag radials on. Take it back to the dealer and say WTF.? Before it's too late.....
