Automotive technology has raised a generation of people that can't drive. I drove a non-ABS, no traction control, open differential, V8, and 70% of the weight in the front end car for years in the snow.
and i prefer to drive my 1987 944S with 50/50 weight distribution..
sure the Z can handle.. but comparatively no..

ask any avid SCCA porsche driver.. the 911 may beat it to the first turn but its the 944 coming out first in the last...
When you have been around as many porsches as I have.. then you can speak intelligently..

wow, talk about 2 extremes, the S4 is an awsome car no doubt, 4 door v6 turbo, while a camaro is just a badass car, I think the camaro has more personallity, more potential, and you can get a lot more out of it for the amount you'd be paying for a S4, but if you need a 4 door very drivable car with a good highway power band, go for the s4, but just remember, the badass of the 2 is the camaro

I know exactly where you're coming from. I have my 95 TA and am thinking of getting an 01.5-02 S4 in the near future for a dialy. I got an S4 for my mom and also helped my friend drive his from LA to Virginia this past summer. The same friend has done several mods to his S4 and we were both in Florida together for a spring break vacation this month. He has K04 turbos, tuning with Vag com, home made intake, chip, custom 3" exhaust and some more things. His is extremely quick on the highway and comfortable to drive while still getting 30mpg (yes, we averaged that on our trip to FL and while we were there!). He just dynoed this week at 428awhp and 468awtq with a sorry A/F of 10:1 and only 17psi out of a potential 22psi with a new maf and intercoolers. I couldn't keep up with his traffic weaving in the TA, but at Daytona's Bike Week, he didn't have any chicks notice his car or have any cops tell him to step on it so they could hear the glorious 8 cylinders through the intersection.
Ok, enough about the S4, F-body will have more presence and more *****. Be more fun to drive because the torque curve isn't as flat as that of the S4 and will be easier and cheaper to mod yourself. Interior of the SS will be far less than the S4, but exterior of the SS mortifies the S4. When the SS breaks with its normal GM problems, you can just check into the nearest auto parts shop and pick up the parts, but God forbid the S4 to break. They don't break as often, but when they do, hope you have an extended or aftermarket warrenty and can locate the nearest audi dealership, ex: new engine 10k, new tranny 6k, new stock K03 turbos 4k, etc. The S4 has better brakes as it has the 13 and something inch rotors with 4 pad 9" tall callipers from the porche 911 and can stop from 60-0 in around 100 ft. The 2000 models don't have traction control, but are still extremely hard to break loose, whereas with the SS, just tap the throttle and make smoke and become the envy of all other cars on the road.
I'd say to get the S4 if you want a relaxing everyday, every condition driver car that you can drive high speed, insane or like a grandma without drawing too much unwanted attention. If you want your presence known and for the chicks to notice, rumble through with the SS. It will also get decent mileage and be a much more relaxing low speed cruiser car than the S4. All depends on your tastes and what you're going to be using it for. Hell, get both
