2000 Camaro SS vs. 2000 Audi S4
2000 Camaro SS vs. 2000 Audi S4
I am looking at getting either an audi s4 or a camaro ss. i know that they are vbery different cars, but those are the 2 i have narrowed it down to. What do u guys think?
Re: 2000 Camaro SS vs. 2000 Audi S4
I want to mod the car. They both have alot of mods available. But i want good handling. I had a mustang and it would slid on turns alot, will that still happen with a SS? Also i want the ability to go to the snow everyonc in a while ( i live in so cal so not alot of snow) can i go in a SS?

take a test drive in both cars .. the S4 will be just an amazing luxury car that is absolutely mind blowing from all perspectives .. the SS will be much faster and have a lot more ***** but on the downside, lower quality interior, definitely not as comfortable and luxurios but a lot more moddable and more performance potential.. once you drive the 2 cars u'll know right away which ones for you..
if you look at my sig u'll see that i've gone through modding Fbodies .. now i really want an S4 with 2-3 small mods as my all around car that'll also keep my happy around the bends and straightaway . but im up in vancouver and we get lots of rain and some snow

I would like to take the car taht i get to open track days and have some fun. Will the SS just slid out on everyturn? I do know how to drive on race tracks (i have a kart racing license). But it still needs to holds the turns. If not is there a few suspension mods for it to help that?

well.... i have my car... and we have a 01 s4 avant
two different cars, made for 2 very different things
unless you are a ***** to the wall straightline raw horsepower enthusiast. i would actually go for the s4
and forget about working on an s4 yourself... HEH! i still don't believe thats an internal combustion engine thats shoehorned into the front of that car... looks like something picked up at the roswell crash
the SS would be alot faster tho... unless you were doing some good cornering

If you can hold off on power, the SS -if you commit to it can be made to handle awesomely as well as a BMW, with the right shocks(Strano Auto parts can custom revalve konis and bilsteins and the results will be quite impressive -Sam is an auto X champ), springs, and subframe connectors, lower control arms and torque arm. I got through every storm with bridgestone blizzak ws-50's on steel 16x7 rims, so did hondas or all those awds do any better than me, nope. I also think the audi is more expensive to maintain and repair, but don't let my diehard pro Camaro stance deter you from choosing the car thats right for your needs, good luck with whatever you decide.

BMW doesnt handle that well *and I have driven the M3 and M5's on a track..
But thats my opinion..
The audi is by far a better choice..
The SS cannot be looked at as a "collector car" unless you bought it new and are going to store it and never touch it for 30 years.. then you may break even with the cost you paid for the car... but doubtful you would recoup the cost of storing it properly..
The S4 is a wicked car with wicked potential.. one of my best friends just got one for his wife and they are already modding it.
I say get the S4, you will have traction when you need it, accelleration off the line with minimal spin... very good handleing.. from what I hear, because of its AWD, when you are pushing hard into a turn the breakaway is very progressive so you are going to be more in tune with the road and car and get some good lap times..
The Z28/SS as a track car not that good an idea.. perhaps a 3rd gen for SCCA would be better but the 4th gens just cant compete with the 3rd gens on a course.. but then again. I perfer my 944 for scca.. hehe

I think all of you whining about F-bodies being unable to handle have been driving yur mommy's Civic for too long. They handle fine. They just require a little gentler hand. You can't throw them around like a light and/or AWD car. They require smooth inputs. I realy find it hard to believe that a 3rd gen will outhandle a 4th gen in stock trim. Automotive technology has raised a generation of people that can't drive. I drove a non-ABS, no traction control, open differential, V8, and 70% of the weight in the front end car for years in the snow.
