1999 vs 2000 exhaust

Could anyone tell me the difference in the exhaust systems on the 1999 and 2000 model Z28 Camaro? I'm looking to purchase a Dynomax off road y-pipe. However, it is only listed for the 1998 and 1999 model.

Part number is 88027.
It can be viewed here:

If no one can answer this question, then could you direct me to a solution for my problem. The flange directly in front of the driver side cat is cracked where it bolts to the manifold. I need a solution that doesn't involve buying another cat. I have some other issues with my exhaust system and was hoping to take care of all of them with a y-pipe.

I know this is the "Exhaust" forum... but there's not a lot of traffic. We are in the midst of realigning the forums to try an make things better.

In the meantime, I'll move this to "LS1 Based Engine Tech" in the hope that the increased traffic there will help you find a solution. On the other hand, I don't think your sarcasm is going to help you get assistance.

Re: 1999 vs 2000 exhaust

The difference between the `98-99 and `00-02 exhaust is the manifolds and Ypipes.
`98-99 cars have the tubular style manifolds with one cat (left one) bolted to the manifold and the other is under the floor.
The 2000-up cars got new cast iron manifolds and relocated both the cats to being right off the manifolds.
Sorry not sure if the Dynomax O/R Y-pipe will work or not.

That pipe won't fit a 2000 and up. Bassani makes one that fits well.

Where do you live? I'd strongly consider Pacesetter headers along with the TSP ypipe (improved) or TD. May not be able to though depending on emmision testing and whatnot.

Re: 1999 vs 2000 exhaust

With some more searching, I found that Dynomax also made the same pipe for the 2000 and up model, so I ordered it and installed it. The fit wasn't super, but it doesn't leak so it's good enough. All three of the exhaust studs on the left manifold broke. Fortunately my father was helping me and he used a trick he learned from some guy he used to work for. Heat up the manifold around the stud with a high temp torch, then stick a candle to the top of the stud. The wax runs in the threads, and they screw right out.
