1998 SS w/ big oil leak

I recently purchased a 1998 SS (6-spd) w/ 11,000 mile, and have been enjoying it everyday for the last two months. Then on the way to work yesterday morning, I noticed a smell of burned oil, just assumed that it was someone else. But when I got to work I saw the white smoke coming up from the back of the hood on the driver side. I looked under the car and there was a big puddle of oil and oil dripping down at the front of the transmission. I check the oil level and it was down a little over a quart. After letting everything cool down, I jacked up the car and wiped down all the oil and restarted the motor and I could see oil coming down the driverside of the transmission and some coming out at the bottom where the motor and transmission meet. I can't see the back of the motor, but assume that it is coming from there and leaking down. What is at the back of the motor, above the transmission that can leak a lot of oil. I had seen post about the back of the intake leaking, is there any way to cheack back there without removing the intake? Is there a oil line or pressure sender back there that can be leaking, I ask this because the oil pressure seems low when I got to work (10-20psi). No low oil light has come on during this incident.
Thank you for your help.

Exclamation The oil pressure sending unit is at the driver's side rear of the intake manifold.

My understanding is that with a cool motor you can reach back there & jack w/ the thing from above - I don't know if you can even see it from the bottom.

If it came loose ,or somehow broke, I could see that causing some troubles !

Good Luck !

Could be the sending unit, as it is affecting pressure. Maybe the rear main seal, or heads.

And the intake is dry as in it has no water or oil near it so that can't be a problem.

Sometimes an oil pressure sensor will blow out and start leaking. It's behind the intake on the driverside of the motor.

My bet is on the rear main seal. Pull the tranny and take a look.
