1998 Camaro Z28 with Oil Pressure Issues?
1998 Camaro Z28 with Oil Pressure Issues?
Listen guys I have had my 1998 Z28 in my garage sitting due to a oil pressure reading of zero. So today I fire it up for the first time in a long time and the pressure reads zero. After I shut the car off the gauge raises to normal levels with the are and electronic system being off. I replaced the sending unit and it changed nothing. About a month before the car was placed in the garage on a stand still due to the reading being zero I had problems with acceleration. I was driving it and it had seemed to bog down at weird times. I would drive it and try to step on it and it would almost conk the engine out. But I was able to restart it and get it back home. This was RIGHT before it had the oil pressure gauge drop to zero. I am wondering if it is the gauge itself or actually the oil pump. Seeing as when I had shut it off after the initial start and the gauge would rise to normal specs. Is it the gauge or the oil pump?

My .02.
sounds like electrical/guage related. a mechanical pump isn't going to work intermittently.
Plus if it was driven with 0 showing on the guage (and it was accurate); the bottom end would be toast (if you ran it much that way.)
get a mechanical guage on it, before it is toast. someone else can chime in as to what to remove so you can hook one up.

Re: 1998 Camaro Z28 with Oil Pressure Issues?
Actually it was never driven once the gauge had dropped to 0. I replaced the sending unit because I though possibly that could be it and it turns out it wasn't. But after I initially had parked it after I was driving it and it bogged down on me and actually had stalled a few times it sat for a bit. Then I went out and started it one day and the gauge read 0. Only after that did i start it briefly a few times to check to see if the gauge was reading. The battery remained dead as well as the car for about 2 years. Until yesterday when I fully charged the battery and started it real quick and the gauge was fine. So I guess the big question is where do I even start to diagnose the issue? Also what tools and where can I acquire them to diagnose the issue.

a multimeter or go with power probe 3 master kit
