Post 1987 Grand National vs 2000 Camaro SS

My friend has an 87 Buick Grand National, and I have a 2000 Camaro SS, and he`s just dying to race me but I heard alot about those cars being pretty quick, Do I have a chance?... Or will he just blow my doors off. I want to see what you guys think before I race him.

My car is stock, He has a few mods, Stock motor, turbo and trans, 2.5" Hooker exh, Scanmaster ll, 93 chip, 30lb injectors, Hi Po Fuel regulator, Hi Po Fuel pump and K&N Filter w/ 9" Cone. So what do you guys think.

Depends on quick he can spin up his turbo. I raced one and he ran a 12.5 to my 13.2 ... but I was 400 feet down track before he launched

WITH THE MINOR MODS HE HAS HE WILL WIN. THOSE CARS ARE REAL QUICK. IF YOU DIAL UP THE BOOST FROM THEY CAN RUN 12.9 STOCK. ALL IT TAKES IS A TURN OF A **** UNDER THE HOOD

Just make a gentleman's bet with the guy, but don't bet too much money - it could go either way. Race him for fun and see what happens.

With me it's the other way around, my buddy owns an 87 GN and I own a 98 T/A and I'm the one trying to race HIM. His is pretty much completely stock and it still intimidates the hell out of me though but he doesn't really know much about launching a turbo car, he just kind of mashes the gas and takes off but I can launch my 6-speed real well so I could have a chance to take him...

I would be scared, he'll probably take you down, but hey, it'll still be fun!

If your friend is running street boost (15-17 lbs) with those basic mods he should be able to take a stock LS1. Since he has a scanmaster the guy probably knows how to tune a GN too so not much chance the car will be a slow one. If you can get him to go from a roll that might be your best shot but don't take that for granted. With basic mods, my GN used to walk off from plenty of LT1/LS1 F bodies at a highway cruise. We won't even talk about 5.0s. GNs are torque monsters but they also have a surprising mid-range to top-end pull. Anyway, let us know how it goes.
