Question 18" C5 rims on a SS??

I was wondering how much modifying I would have to do to my SS in order to squeeze the 18" Silver C5 rims under the car. I was hoping to get 18s on all four corners, instead of just the back, without tubbing anything out. Any info is appreciated, including tire size needed. Even if the overall tire hieght was the same as my 17"s with 275/40s on it would be fine.

Some people have had to use spacers and have encountered rubbing issues do to these reasons:

(1)They obtained a wheel with the wrong offset. Performance Wheel Outlet sells the 18" Vette wheel with the correct offset for an f-body (I think it is 50mm) Other wise you may have to use spacers to make the wheels fit correctly.

(2)The wrong tire combo was used. If you want to match the exact stock diameter of your car so that your speedo doesn't go coo-coo, then you will have to go with a 275/35/18 tire.

Good luck with these awesome wheels

Since the C5 wheels are 9.5" wide, shouldn't I need a wider tire, like 295s maybe??

275/35 is a good match to a 9.5" rim (11" would be the max for this tire). The taller and wider 295's will be a problem on the front, and a tight fit on a 9.5" rim.

275/35's, on the right wheel, shouldn't require any mods to the car like rolling the rear fender lip.

You're likely looking at lowering the SS too.

See Y2K before I lowered mines.

The widest you can go on 9.5 is 285

man you can go ahead and do 18x9.5 and run a 285/35/18, my friend runs them on his ta and its lowered with the ss bistein springs. you may need to pound your inner rear fenderwells just a little.

WhiteDeathLS1 is exactly right. 275/35/18 is equal in circumference to a 275/40/17 and that is what I would use on my car. Just be forwarned that the extra unsprung weight will slow the car slightly.

On my 00 SS, I put 18"*9.5 Z06 rims. They clear fine with 275/35/18, even with the 1.8' drop in the front and rear.

The C5 rims should look nice

Unhappy

I have 275/40s in back on 18 inch Vette rims. They rub and are too tall. The 275 or 285/35s sound like a better option. I am actually looking for a replacement set of 17 inch rims as I think the 18s are too heavy and don't give any performance advantage.

Im not really looking for a performance advantage, Just styling, and I think 3 of my 4 rims are bent.
