12,000 mile maintenance?

I heard there is a 12k mile maintenance for our cars.

I just hit 14k miles. What is this 12k miles, all I've done with my car so far is give it oil changes every 3k miles.

Am I missing anything? =) Oh yeah, and of course got a K&N filter and the SLP lid =)

Why don't you just read your owners manual

My owners manual doesnt say much about it. It doesn't talk about my rear diff. fluid. It just states the no-brainers. Fluid, oil, tire rotation, and trans. fluid

Isn't there a special insert or something that has a log for maintenace? Now, I know I have a Ford, but I have a log in the back of my owners manual for all reccomended services. I even get stuff in the mail to remind me about stuff.

transmission fluid change/filter

there are a few of us in here thta have had their transmission fluid changed. possible overkill on my part but I found a GM service manager that agreed with the following:

flush old fluid
remove / replace filter
add new GM fluid

if I could have gotten them (GM) to add synthetic or royal purple I would have. maybe 12,000 mile is way too soon for this UNLESS you do this yourself and to go the route of synthetic or premium fluid of your choice......my 2 cents.

yea, kind of a wiseass for a ford boy, ehh?

Sometime past 7500 miles, rear diff, depending how picky you are.

Didn't change my rear diff until about 18,000 miles and it doesnt even mention it in the back of the book. So if they try and void any warranties TOO BAD! The manual is pretty bad with maintenance.

Nah... just assuming Guess I was wrong... eitherway, it won't be a Ford for long

What do they recommend for fluid? Synchromesh? I run 3 quarts of Synchromesh in my Tremec just as Tremec advises, but my 3-2 downshift is sometimes impossible unless I put it in 1st gear, then back to 2nd. So that leaves me to think it might not be the best out there. I run Royal Purple every 3k miles in my engine with a quart of Lucas and I run RP in my diff. too... not sure if any of this makes any difference, but nonetheless, I do it anyway.

BTW... I noticed my shifting seemed a bit more "notchier" after I changed the fluid in my Tremec. I only had about 5K miles on the original fluid, but I wanted to change it once I broke it in... Maybe it wasn't the best thing to do... I don't know.

Synchromesh is what helps shift from gear to gear in a manual transmission. Transmission fluid used nowdays is usually ATF, which is much thinner than gear lube.

There is nothing wrong with an early fluid change, if anything its a good idea. Just like when putting in new rear end gears, or similar to when you rebuild an engine, you dump the fluid early on to get metal shavings out, until things "wear into" each other/seat etc.

I believe when doing a gear swap (similar to a new car), 500 miles for first rear end fluid change, and 7500 thereafter. Many cars have gone thier entire lives on stock fluid I know after dumping my own transmission fluid on the 240Z, I found alot of metal, even circular chunks, and the fluid looked just about glittery (bad). My older trans uses gear lube, and something tells me it was not changed within the last 10 years if that, thankfully it has a magnetic drain plug.

and the plugs...I try to change the ngk tr55's once a year, the fuel filter once a year, the rear differential fluid once/yr,
oh yeah and the plug wires, too. try MSD.
and flush the tranny.
