1.7 Roller Rockers
1.7 Roller Rockers
My car and mods are in my sig. I plan on getting FLP long tube headers and high-flow cats, and a DiabloSport programmer next.
After that I was thinking about roller rockers. I've heard that 1.8's and 1.85's don't work well with some aftermarket cams. Would it be worth getting 1.7's? I know stock is 1.7 but would it be worth getting them since they are roller tipped and lighter weight?

Re: 1.7 Roller Rockers
If you plan on doing a cam one day, then I'd be inclined to say 'yes' to upgrading to better RR's
. Maybe hold off until you actually decide to change the cam though. On their own, I don't think you'd see much noticable difference switching to aftermarket 1.7's from the factory 1.7's?
I know there have been some problems with the stock pieces though.....in a few cases, guys have found the roller needles down in the oil pan!!
I'm considering upgrading mine at some point too just for reliability's sake.

Re: 1.7 Roller Rockers
yeah i think it boils down to trusting the stockers to not fall apart like some have experienced.
i think it is either Comp or Crane that makes cams that are compatable with 1.8 rockers. something about the ramp rate and probably lift.
however these cams tend to have lower lift...like .520 or .530", while some of the other "non-roller compatable" cams come standard with .570 to .590" of lift.
so other than the "reliability" issue with stockers...the $500 for higer ratio rockers is pointless with alot of the bigger cams.

Re: 1.7 Roller Rockers
it's vinci/crane with their accelerated lift rockers and cams. i use the 1.8 rockers on the stock cam now. they can be used with their cams that have .551 lift @ 1.7. righjt off vinci's site ALL OF OUR .551 LIFT CAMS WILL FIT WITH STOCK PISTONS AND OUR 1.8 ROCKERS
