found this on another board
If you own an 01-02 LS-1 F-body there is a chance you have the corvette LS-6 block tucked under your hood. Here is how to find out. First off, it has a much duller look then the LS-1 but if you have no way to compare go ahead and crawl under with a flashlight (I used a lift to check so idon't know how hard it will be to see) and on the back of the block at the top by the head on the driver side is a casting #. if it is 12561168, congrats, you have the LS-6 block. It is good for an estimated 20HP over the LS-1 and it is alot stronger. Sadly I have a plain old ordinary LS-1.

This has been posted on other boards (ls1.com, slp's message board). It has been said the LS6 block is stronger...but where do u get that a block is worth 20hp?

The LS6 intake manifold is worth up to 20HP...The block is a little stronger, through redesign to overcome the weakening that the larger cast-in bay-to-bay breathing windows cause. There'll be a little less windage and oil whipping at high rpm compared to the LS1 block, but that'll not be worth much in output, just hopefully we'll have less problems with oil mist getting up into the breather. Shame they didn't rationalize to the LS6 lifter valley breather at the same time.
The LS6 block appeared in 01 Vettes, and seems to have been randomly dropped into 01 production of F-bodies, only becoming standard in the last few months of build (mine was built June)

And another easier way to tell if you have one that has been posted here...

On the front passenger side of the block, in front of the intake manifold there is either a bullseye or a groove. I think the bullseye was the LS1. I don't remember for sure. I just woke up.
