$ burning a hole in my pocket!

Okay gang, I have a few bucks I am willing to drop on my car and I am thinking of either a supercharger, STS Turbo or do I go into the engine and upgrade cams, heads etc... I am curious to know pros/cons and in general just get some feedback.

Your honest opinion is appreciated...

Thanks,

What are you end goals for the car? What kind of budget are you looking to stay within?

just remember the more power you make the more stuff is gonna break, dont spend your whole budget on your engine and then have nothing left when your tranny or rear end goes out

i think a good heads/cam package will be easier on the engine than any SC/TC

with a good streetable cam in the low 230s and some ported heads you can pretty easily be at 425rwhp

and probably have it all for under $2500 depending on what heads you go with and what supporting mods you have.

Very true, if you do decide to spend, buy the parts used... Keep all of your stock parts.

Re: $ burning a hole in my pocket!

I appreicate the bank suggestion! I know money spent here is not an investment is a pure loss, but thats okay. I am a good saver! I am not going to waste my savings...but I could spare as much as 6 or 7 k reasonably. Dont get me wrong, like anyone I want to spend as little as possible! Truth is I really do not spend my moneyat all except with my car is ...so what!!! everybody has their vices! I know you guys can relate.

I am not looking for 700 HP, but it is not my daily driver so I am willing to go a little radical. I am inclined to go with work on the cam and heads. 425 - 450 rwhp should be possible with the right headers/exhaust...right?

Also, most of the cam and heads stuff is over my head... any suggestions? I guess I a speed shop is not my next search?

12-bolt and tires!

I'm a firm believer in building the car to handle the power before you add the power.

Then, the next time you have a bunch of money to spend, you don't have to worry about breaking that poor little 10-bolt.

Is your car an A4 or an M6?

^ yep. Form what I've heard the 12b and gears can change the whole attitude of the car.

When I got back from deployment, I didn't just burn a hole in my pocket, my whole right pant leg went up in flames.....

Re: $ burning a hole in my pocket!

thanks for the replies...to answer the question of my tranny it is an a4. I am thinking 3.73 gears would be a nice upgrade...will I need a power programmer to update the computer of the changes (heads, cam, gears,)

Thx again.

Re: $ burning a hole in my pocket!

If you're doing a H/C you will need a tune to finely adjust the a/f mixture, spark advance...etc... For a mod like that I'd recomend an LS1 Edit/dyno tune... I don't think the hand helds could tune well enough for the H/C.... although I've never used one.

425-450 hp is quite obtainable w/ h/c and headers!... You should concider some suspension mods too.. What have you done as far as that?

Handheld programmers are a waste of money. Either spend ~$150 on a mail order tune, or $500 on a dyno tune.

Buy a 12-bolt, and specify that you want 3.73 gears in it.

No they are not. They have their uses, especially the good ones like Predator, Crane.

You have to look really hard at your goals and tuning needs for now and in the future and make an informed decision.

Re: $ burning a hole in my pocket!

For a daily driver A4 car I'd go with a turbo. When driven easily it drives like stock and gets stock fuel mileage numbers and when you hammer it it drives like a heads/cam motor. And it's a total sleeper as far as the police go.

For a track car I like all motor.
