yet another VATS thread

ok, the car I have (93 TA) had the VATS resistor installed by a previous owner, because it wouldn't start and the security light was on.
Well last week, the security light came on, and the car wouldn't start. I unplugged the ignition fuse under the hood, plugged it back in, and it fired right up. Tonight same crap happened, except no matter what fuse I pull ignition under hood or in dash (in dash makes the light go off) the light immeidately comes back on and the car won't start. Mind you I DON'T have keyless entry (my 99 sometimes will act up, and I have to repeatedly lock/unlock the car with the keyless)
HELP!! I'm stuck at work and can't get home!!!

Re: yet another VATS thread

if u know the value of the resistance from ur key/VATS resistor u can try getting a new key made to match that value bc maybe the contact it is making is bad, or else ur gonna need a new VATS control module (i think thats what its called on the 93's, on my 96 its a BCM)...they run close to $300...and when mine went bad the security light stayed on and the car wouldn't start, wouldn't even crank over. replaced it with a new BCM and the car has been fine ever since...

Re: yet another VATS thread

by getting VATS programmed out, you mean just erasing the code??? bc if thats the case then the code only stays deleted until it is recognized 3 more times and then it will reappear. Once that happens you're screwed again lol. But if by gettin it programmed out you mean you can have your VATS system completely removed then i guess go for it...its only for security purposes, and causes more headaches than help IMO.

well, I know you can have it removed, look at conversion cars. I just didn't know what all was involved with it!

Re: yet another VATS thread

dude beleive me just go to the http://web.camaross.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=36
and find tjwong or madwolf and you can mail your PCM to them, have your VATS Edited out and you will never have a problem again, plus you can have any performance editing done you want, even have the EGR shut off, the smog pump shut off what ever for about $100 give or take a few bucks!
I own a shop and dont have a dyno cuase they cost so much, so tjwong owns a dyno and tunes LT1's all day long and has a ton of editing profiles, I have him do all my PCM editing for me this way, also madwolf tunes on a dyno all the time too and both these guys know their stuff and are some of the top tuners in the nation and we are lucky to have them on this web site.

Re: yet another VATS thread

You can have the Vats programmed out by have a new chip burned. That will disable the key check and will enable the fuel signal. You will also have to wire the ignition disable relay on to a switched 12V source. Its that that difficult to do. I did it over the winter, when I got rid of everything behind my dash. Good thing I've got my own chip burner. But there are plenty of people out there that can do it for ya. I have personally dealt with Alvin for PCMforless. He does great work and has great customer service. He might be able give ya a price break, if VATS is the only thing being done. Since you have a 93, you might want to check out www.speeddensity.org for alot of 93 specific information.

well, I'm going to say, looking at my mod list, I already have some programming LOL
I'm not mailing crap anywhere, I need it up and running now. It just got sold over the phone last night. Besides, I have great local LT1 tuner here in Jacksonville. I just to get it strated and on the flatbed now!
I just don't have the time or lighted space to crawl under the dash. I'm assuming the old resistor came loose, since I was told it was just placed in the when it happened a few months ago!

Is that a 93 thing only? I thought as long as the VATs box is unchecked through tuning it no longer checked the resistor??

Re: yet another VATS thread

oops sorry, almost forgot that a 93 has PROM and not EEPROM, So you have a prom chip that would have to be burned with VATS Delete, ok have your Jacksonville tuner make you a 555 timer to send a 40hz signal to the ECU and wire your starter purple wire direct to the s terminal on the starter... or get a new passkey II Module...

Re: yet another VATS thread

well, sine the fuel pump comes on, does it disable the ignition power signal, or what? Could I just use a push button for the starter? I need a cheap quick fix. The car is being picked up in 3 days!

Re: yet another VATS thread

I'm not sure if the vats disables the fuel pump or the injector pulses. But yes the vats disables the ignition as well. There is a relay behind the glove box.
