Would opti die going down road?

Hello, my son once again was driving my car(last time he drove it water pump went out). He said that he got gas, about thirty minutes later while going down the road it just went dead. I check fuses etc and his older brother check the schrader valve for fuel pressure--he thought maybe water got to the fuel pump--had pressure there. He also check the coil, had a good spark there, but the best he could tell using a nail to ground out a spark plug, no spark was seen--so again i ask would an opti just go out while driving?? My older son is suppose to get a code puller after he gets off from Firestone Tires. Thanks Dwayne

Optis have been known to fail as a result of being soaked in coolant.

Yeah i thought the water pump was going to double kill me--but it went out about a month or so ago--this is the original opti, about 79,000, plus miles on it.

My oldest boy from Firestone brought his portable scanner and came up with a PO336B code--said it was the crank position sensor-- he also put a spark tester on a plug and got no spark (got spark at the coil),and the scanner said i had so many hundred misfires on each cynlinders--I know im hoping, but could the crank sensor be causing my problem or is it like my son sezs and its the opti? Thanks Dwayne

Yes, the crank sensor could lead to those problems as well. I would pull the harness and check for any corrosion, contaminants, or moisture.

The sensor is located on the bottom of the timing chain cover.

i thought the only reason for the crank position sensor on the LT1 was for detecting more exactly what cylinder was misfiring for OBD II lt1's

i thought the lt1 got its signal pretty much completely from the optical sensor in the opti so it could still possibly be the opti especially seeing as how the water pump has gone out recently

My opti quit while I was driving. The car stopped dead and would not start again. So yes it is possible.

^^^ x2, water pump was slowly leaking coolant and i was going through my neighborhood pretty fast, at about 5,000rpm's it suddenly died without warning. ended up being a bad water pump that leaked into the opti, replaced both
