Is it worth it to get an expensive CAI?

I found this on ebay

Seems like it does the same thing as the expensive ones (and it has a K&N filter) for about 1/4th of the cost of the name brand ones.

If I have to sacrifice 1 or 2 hp, for the cheaper one it seems worth it.

Let me know what you think

i wanna say...you get what you pay for.

that particular one looks better than most cheap ebay CAIs. but it still isn't all that good looking...visually. performance wise it should do fine.

your call

Well it just seems like it has the same stuff as the expensive ones.

It eliminates the air box, had a good filter, made out of good material i think, and some have a heat shield.

Theres not much more you can do to make it any better...at least i didnt think.

If the intake tube actually goes down into the nose and not just laying awkwardly under the hood, then I'd say it's OK. Otherwise, I'd pass.

$24.99 for shipping is a ripoff.

Still a lot cheaper than the name brand ones.

Ebay companies seem like they charge $25 for the product and $25 for shipping...or $50 for the product and free shipping...so i dont really think about it much.

Well judging by the picture, it looks like a normal nice intake that goes dow in the nose.

I had one just like that, but it sat high in the engine bay. I think I paid $40 for it, many years ago.
It's a starge product. It's metal looking on the outside, but almost ceramic looking on the inside. The "chrome" coating scatches off easily, and dulls quicly even if you stay on top of your up keep.

I broke down about 6 months ago and bought a Trans-Dapt CAI like this one;

http://www.performancedepot.com/prod...778&sku=258176

Comparatively cheap, but same/similar design to the big name brands.

I'm guessing its a piece of exhaust tubing and a filter. It looks cheap. It has no provision for hooking up the air pump.
On the other hand, it won't make less power than any other CAI.

I feel like i'm defending it...but all the reviews are "A++++" and "Fits Great, love the horsepower" etc.

I mean it does the essentials, gets rid of the stock airbox, and this particular one goes down deep into fender. Seems like a good cheap buy.

I bought this kit from chromeintakes and unless you're happy with a home made looking outfit then you won't be happy. I gave them a positive feedback before I tried to fit the thing. I ended up using only a few parts that they sent and wrapping duct tape around the "chrome" tubing to match up with the factory parts I needed to re-use. In other words, I was actually necking down to the size of the parts they sent. The filter dangles down in the cavity well like the others and that's not the best situation. I have duct taped up the little openings where the front wheel forces small stones and dirt into the chamber were the filter lives. I guess this is unavoidable....

I had another 95 with a K&N intake kit. It was so much better than what I bought off ebay. I won't go so far as to say you are wasting your money but I will say that I would personally pay three times as much rather than to end up with what I have now. I'm looking for a good deal on a real cai. I missed out a while back where they were going for $125.

What are some good kits that are relatively cheap?

The one I had bought didn't look like it has one either, but it did.

5 posts above would be a good place to start.

Yeah I'd take a look at that Trans-Dapt one Lower posted above, from looking at photos of it in other threads it looks like a 100% straight up copy of the Moroso CAI, which is one of the best IMO. I'm running the actual Moroso and I'd definitely go w/ it or the Trans-Dapt if I was buying again.
