Is it worth it?

It's come time to part ways with my Camaro

However, I can't decide exactly what to do with it. I've already purchased a new car so I'm not desperate on time, but I need to get rid of it some time soon. Basically, my options are 1) Donate the car to one of those charities that gives you a tax write-off (which would go to my Dad since he helped me out with the new car) and 2) Spend all the time and effort to show the car and sell it.

The car is a 96 Z28 with some mild front-end damage (crack in fender by the headlight), an interior that doesn't have too many problems (driver's seat is ripped, though), 123,000 miles on the clock, desperately needs brake work, and has some electric components that are showing age (slow windows, etc.).

I have no idea what the car is really worth so I'm not sure if the tax write-off would be more valuable than my time and effort counted against whatever I could get for the car.

Anyone have any experience/advice? TIA!

sell it yourself...its the only way to sell a car and get the most for it. oh and since those charities didnt pay for the car, they dont really care what it sells for...

The car doesn't really seem to be in too bad of shape. I recently sold my 94 V6 Camaro with a crack by the passenger headlight, horrible paint, it really needed new rear brakes, and the interior had a cracked dash.

It wasn't easy, but I sold it for $2,000. I'm not sure, but I don't think you would be able to get that much from a charity.

So 2K is not out of the question? If so, I might do it myself. Thanks for the input!

I donated a toyota tercel to the L.A. mission and got a $2200.00 write off. But,In actual final cash, after the dust settles,I realized around $300.00 cash back.I would sell it.My02.

I wouldn't think so. I had mine listed for about a month and had about 10 people come and look at it before my neighbor finally bought it from me. But I think you shouldn't have too hard of a time with a z28.
