A word of warning about A/C compressors

I just learned the hard way that an ACDELCO branded compressor will get you a aftermarket Four Seasons compressor stuffed into an ACDELCO labeled box. To top it off, you pay a premium of $50-100 more than if you bought the same compressor in a Four Seasons box. This was confirmed legitimate and not counterfit by GM's global security investigatioin for counterfit parts. I incorrectly assumed I would have gotten a DELPHI compressor, but not these days. Plus, the Four Seasons compressor says made in Korea but the ACDELCO box says made in USA!!!

The ACDELCO name has reached a low in my mind.

I'm beginning to wonder if I got ripped off! I purposely scoured the city so that I could get a Delphi compressor, had it professionally installed, and it died this year. Past the two-year warranty of course (I think it's dead anyway).

Here is some more information I am learning about. ACDELCO sometimes has multiple part numbers for the same application. In my case this was true. Each part number gets you a different manufacturer of the part. The one I chose got me a compressor made by Four Seasons produced in Korea. Another part number would have gotten me a DELPHI compressor made in the U.S.

It took several emails to GM to get this straight. The part sellers do not tell you this.

I just bought a Delphi Compressor (Model CS0123) and while it appears to be a quality piece it does say made in mexico.

On a side note, I bought a new AC delco receiver drier and it says made in china...what the hell???

Tough to find anything made in usa anymore.

I asked the GM product specialist if the DELPHI CS-123 is the same as the ACDELCO branded compressor made by DELPHI. He said "almost". He said DELPHI will do some cost cutting measures to make their's a little less expensive than the ACDELCO version. He specifically said they use a different clutch assembly.

Thats probably true...the clutch mechanism does appear to be different from the OEM compressor I just removed. It does look like a nice piece though.
