Will my car make this trip??

Ok here is what is in my car

1994 Camaro Z28
4-speed automatic

The car has the original 127K miles on it. Its been supercharged for about 10K of its lifetime. The motor is really clean, maybe a smalllllll oil leak from the oil pan, and i mean small, like some spots of oil around it on the block, but thats usual.

Its got
Vortech V1 S-Trim Supercharger
3.33" Pulley (7-9psi)
STOCK BOTTOM END
STOCK VALVETRAIN
STOCK INTERNALS

Every bolt on

I just put in:

New mid-lenght MAC headers
New Mr. Gasket header bolts
New 3" MAC y-pipe
New stock intake manifold
New A1-Cardone Optispark
New GM Ignition control module
New MSD Blaster dual connecter Coil
New MSD 8.5MM Wires
New MSD 6BTM Ignition Box
New MSD 94-94 LT1 ignition harness for MSD
New Bosch Spark plugs
New Intake for Supercharger (filter, piping)
New Granatelli MAF
New Vortech BOV
New Vacuum Lines
New Radiator
New Radiator Cap
New Coolant
New Brakes
New Rotors
New Radiator hoses
New intake manifold gaskets
New Valve Cover gaskets
New throttle body gasket

ALSO:
The tranny was just redone with a big permacool tranny cooler and a Vigilante 3200 stall converter. But the tranny does not shift in to overdrive, Ill DEFFFF have to get that fixed

The rear end has new 3.73 gears. Original axle bearings all around, hub bearings up front

I am taking it down to Florida. Going on vacation to Tampa Florida, 1,195 miles from my home here in NY.

So do you think my car can handle that kinda trip? It will be in APRIL so i dont think its going to be 100 degrees in Florida yet.

Will my car handle rought the 3,000 miles i am going to put on it, High speed driving on I-95 for NON-STOP (besides gas, food, etc) overnight 18 hrs to Tampa, Florida?

just asking because of the mileage on the motor

Re: Will my car make this trip??

If your car seems to be fine on a day to day basis, I would say no problem. If you did a compression/leakdown test and it was good, that would be another GO AHEAD! I personally don't think that is a lot of miles for an LT1, even with a charger. Just don't do a Cannon Ball Run the whole way down there!!
I would just change the oil before the trip, and get your tranny fixed like you said, that would be grueling on the engine, and all should be well. just my thoughts.

Re: Will my car make this trip??

Your car should make it... Reminds me of the time when we had to get a Cobra tuned for the week, it was a Saturday, spent all day finding a dyno shop that was open for Sunday (had just got the new engine broken-in in the Cobra)... So Sunday morning my friend calls me up "Im almost at your house, get ready, we're heading up north" and we end up driving non stop to Orlando, had to keep it under 3500 rpm, now prior to this the car had been almost completely apart, in fact I installed the radio while my buddy was driving... We ended up stopping at all the service plazas on the Turnpike, running out of the car, checking the lug nuts, lifting the hood to make sure their was no fire, then getting back up to speed (people would just stare)... After the tune, it turned out the the valve guides where never done correctly in the new motor... But we still made it up there and back no problems.

Should do fine. I've got a 88 Ford Ranger that has 180,000 miles on it with a small leak around the main seal. I drove it from NC to Wisconsion a 950 mile one way trip. On the way up there I had 2 LT-1's and a T-56 in the bed and on the way back I had a 454 BBC and Ford 9" rear end. I had no problems and ran 75-80 mph most of the way. All this with a 4 cly. truck

Re: Will my car make this trip??

My 1987 IROC-Z made 17 roundtrips to Florida in the summertime. In all the those trips the only problem encountered was alternator that went bad. If you can deive your car around town why worry about a trip. unless you have no confidence in the car.

Re: Will my car make this trip??

You must have bad luck. I've driven Camaro's (from 69's to 97's) across the country and back without a bit of trouble. Day to day, stop and go traffic, is much harder on your car than a leasurely cruse down the interstate.

Re: Will my car make this trip??

If you "just put in" all those mods, I would definitely do some local driving to make sure everything is working properly before the trip. I believe the 3.33" blower pulley is the stock pulley, so unless you changed the crank pulley to 7", you're only running 6# of boost.

Re: Will my car make this trip??

As others have said, an oil change and basic check should do the trick. Only additional I'd look at (other than what you've listed to fix):

Close look at the coolant hoses and clamps. If they've been on more than a couple of years, I'd swap them.

While you're there, I'd change the belt(s) too if they have an few years as well.

A couple of hours and a few dollars worth of insurance = peace of mind and reliable ride.

My $.02
