wierd 98-02 firebird pop up headlight problems, im stumped
i have a friend that has a 98 firebird that is having problems with her pop up headlights. when ever she turns the headlights off they come back up after they went down one time alreadymaking a weird sound kinda like a electric motor sound. then when she locks the doors from the inside and shuts the door they pop up make that same weird noise for about 5-8 seconds then they go back down. it also does the same thing when she unlocks her doors with keyless entry and when she locks her doors with keyless entry. is it the motor for the headlights or could it be a short somewhere, or possibly a bad ground? any suggestions would be helpful.
thank you justin

The headlights supposedly act like they're possessed when the motor gear wears out. Even doing things that you wouldn't normally associate with just a gear issue.
Cheap way to fix it is pull the headlight and flip the plastic gear around (it only uses 1/2 of the gear anyway.)
More expensive way is to replace it with another plastic gear, or find the guy on the net that is/was selling brass replacements for them.
This is all hearsay, as I haven't had headlight issues on either of my 'birds... :dunno:

One of the headlights has a stripped gear, worked at a Pontiac dealer for years, common problem. When the noise is happening touch the headlights and feel which one is stripped then you can do the free headlight fix on Brents page.

It's a very simple fix... didn't take me very long at all to do it the weekend before last.
