Why are magazines 1/4 times on the low side?
Everytime I look in a popular car magazine and see all the 1/4 times for a lot of different makes I notice that they are a bit slower than a lot of the owners times when they take it to the track. Is this because the cars they test are brand new and need a little break in time, or running on a full tank of gas, and/or babying the car, etc? It would seem like a lot of the people testing the cars would be really experienced drivers.

Hard to say. A lot of people here only put their BEST time in their sig. Usually they've owned the car and have raced it a few times. These magazine people get the car and only get one day of racing. Track conditions, traction, weather.....it all plays a part.
Oh yeah, and their cars are bone stock too
While we're at it, how come Horsepower TV always dynos WAAAAAY low? They had an LS1 that they put nitrous in, but before the N20, it dynoed at 280something....this is with a few boltons!!!!
