Why does my heater core keep leaking?

I bought this car in June and the heater core sprung a leak a few months ago. Replaced it with a used unit that I tested first and it worked great. Then again just yesterday this one decided to start leaking on me too. Is there another problem somewhere causing this? Anyone else have this problem?

Re: Why does my heater core keep leaking?

For the price that a new heater core costs I would put in a new one. I have done it on my car. A heater core from a junk yard I would never trust!!

It was fine when I put it in. I got it from here, not a junkyard.

Re: Why does my heater core keep leaking?

You put a used one in......how long did you think it would last? Stuff like that you just have to buy new. Takes to much time to put a used one in to have it fail a few months later. I bet if you had tested your original heater core a few months before it started leaking, that one would have tested OK too! LOL I'm not flaming you in any way, I'm just saying, you have to remember that you put in a used part that failed a few months later. That doesn't mean your heater core keeps leaking. Who knows how many miles, how well the previous owner maintained his Cooling System. It's all a mystery with used stuff like that. What year is the car & how many miles?
Mike

BTW Yes, it IS possible that something else could be the cause of your "problem", but I'm 99% sure you'll find it was just a bad used heater core.

Re: Why does my heater core keep leaking?

year and mileage is irrelevant considering that may not have been the original core. I can understand if I got a "bad" core, but I was just wondering if there was another possibility. I understand the risk of buying used but it's worth saving money to a poor college kid so I'll keep doing it.
