Where on earth to take used engine coolant!!!!?????
Where on earth to take used engine coolant!!!!?????
Just like the topic says.....I'm having a hard time finding a place to dump this junk. Even offering the local Chevy dealership money to take it didn't work.....
Autozone and Advance will not take it either.

Thanks guys. I tried our local "Government Recycling Office" and never got a call back....I think I'll go over there and take the stuff with me. If they won't pay attention to me then, I'll just leave it on thier doorstep.

Re: Where on earth to take used engine coolant!!!!?????
Its good that you're looking to recycle the fluid, but in all legality you can put it in a bottle and put it in your trash bag with the rest of your houshold garbage. It is considered a household hazardous waste just like any and all common chemicals you may have at your house and is not regulated. You just can't dump it.
Many municipalities will have haz waste drop off locations, but this doesn't mean its getting recycled. It'll most likely get bulked with the other non-flam liquids and go to a landfill. I've worked at these places and have seen good stuff just dumped in drums with like chemicals. I saved some unopened Redline synth gear oil from the flam liquids drum.

Re: Where on earth to take used engine coolant!!!!?????
I called the local water district about disposal. The guy asked if it was water soluble, and I said yes. He told me to just dump it down the toilet. Thinking back on it, I probably got the janitor and he gave me a bogus answer.
Re: Where on earth to take used engine coolant!!!!?????
The only things we don't dump at work are organics (not H20 soluble) and heavy metals. People would freak if they knew what industry was legally dumping into the sewer.

If you're trying to dispose of anti-freeze containing ethylene glycol (green stuff), DON'T dump it in the driveway. Ethylene glycol is toxic to animals and they may die if they ingest even a small amount of this type of anti-freeze. They are attracted to the ethylene glycol because it is somewhat sweet tasting.
