when storing a bare block how do i prevent rust??

I have a bare lt1 block that has been sitting for a few months and will sit for a few more months b4 i get the money and time to rebuild it. I has a little bit of rust on the surface of the cylinder and crank witch i cleaned of with gentle rubbing and some very very fine steel wool. I was told to coat it in oil but that i would have to do every couple of days probably to keep rust away so i was thinking a light coat of paint may do.

anyone else have any ideas??

Thanks for the help.

just dip a rag in oil then wipe the block down and put it in a large plastic bag. it will last longer than a couple of months that way.

Spray lithium grease will stick real well. Just clean it up with oil when you get ready to build.

Yep, anything to seal the block and then a bag.
I've even used clear coat...

Fill a spray bottle with motor oil, clean or old doesnt matter. Douse the crap out of the thing. Then a big platic bag and twist tie it.Check it in a few months and resoak if needed.

I wouldn't use WD-40 or anything like that.
