whats up with the wiper system?

so on my 02 camaro, the wipers stay nice and low, but if theyre on intermittent, when theyre supposedly down, they stay about 2 inches above the stops. then when i set it to off, they tuck down. almost looks like there are 2 motors in there (one for the actual wiping motion, and one that moves the entire thing down onto the stops, then up a couple of inches whenever theyre on). whats up with that? im really curious

Re: whats up with the wiper system?

There are actually two parked positions.. one is operational 'Park' position and used when the wipers are running in hi/lo/wash/mist/delay mode. When the wipers are turned off the wiper control circuitry moves the wipers to the 'Depressed Park" position (tucks them away) by reversing the voltage on the wiper motor and running it backwards for a bit..

Re: whats up with the wiper system?

thats a better way to describe it. so why is it like that? why dont they just go into the depressed park position all the time?

Re: whats up with the wiper system?

According to SM right end of passenger blade at park s/b 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 inches from top of paint line, that allows left end of passenger blade to just about touch the paint line. The right end of drivers blade s/b 3 3/4 to 5 inches from top of paint line and that allows left end of drivers blade to touch the top of paint line. In depressed park both blades are at or below the paint line and the arms are resting against the stop on the cowl. If your operating park position is not within the above specs (blades to high up from paint line) then the arm would have to be pulled and installed correctly. I guess the designers felt that sweep was adequate as dropping them lower at operational park would require longer blades to insure overlap at top of stroke. And tucking them further down when not in use made them less visible..
