Question whats the best year for project

I’ve had an 84 iroc, and 85 z28, and a 94 z28. The z28 I stroked and go pretty serious but never messed w/the fuel injection too much just had thunder racing reprogram it.
Any way now to the real question. I am going to be building a project camaro. I will gut the car and insert a big block. I want a 500-800 hp car w/a possible blower or turbo. I need your guys input on what the best year range to get. Currently looking at 68,70,77,any 84 and up. I plan to find a v6 and use it. What is your guys input like I will make it a manual, will use it for street and strip. Cannot decide on FI or Carb.

-I need to know from all of you guys who have gone through this process and have any suggestions as to what will my best bet as far as parts and one of a kind look

Thanks

Me and my uncle went through that process, we decided on a 72 z28 with a buick 455 that was a fun *** project. When it comes to highly modifying a car i learned from experience that carb is a whole lot better in the long than
FI.

Whatever you do, get a pre-emissions vehicle, or at least one that is emissions expempt in your area. That way, there's pretty much no holds barred concerning what you can do and still be "street legal". Personally, i'd go for '67-'69.

i am in s.w Missouri. i don't think they look to hard at emissions. if they do i will have the title in my dad or mom's name thus giving it a GA title were it will be no holds barred for sure
-i was thinking that with the older cars i might have to cut the floor out
-but if i got a unibody would they be able to take the torque of a big block without building a tube chassis

There would be no need to cut out the floor on an older car, unless you're wanting to tub and narrow it, but then anycar would require cutting the floor pan to do that. Lots and lots of unibody cars are taking big block tourque, weld in subframe connectors and a 4 or 6 point rollbar will do wonders for structural integrity. I'm also gonna throw out a vote for going fuel injected with it, even more so if you're gonna put the boost to it. It may take a little more to get the fuel injection initially, but the benefits are well worth it, especially for a street car.
