whats the best way to remove floor hump

I sick of all my passengers complaining about that stupid thing, plus it looks lame. I could pound it down with a hammer, but I don't want it looking like crap, or big lumps underfoot. The other concern is a brace that runs across it underneath, does it really add structure to the car that will be missed? I can weld a piece of steel brace next to it after pounding to give it, its strength back, but not sure if thats really needed. My other option is to cut the whole piece out and weld in a new one with a brace, I'm sure this is best, but its more work and more of an appearance option, and since no one goes under the car to look, I really don't care, but like I said I don't want people to feel with their feet and then say, "wow, whats wrong with the floor how come its all lumpy" I am also wondering how far it can be pounded down-given the space available in the passenger side(far as being able to swing the hammer around enough without hitting my dash). So for you guys that have done this, how did it turn out-post pics if you have them.

Not many have, of the 2 that I know of one cut the offending piece out and the other took a 20 pound sledge to it. Cutting it out would be the way to go if you want it to look and feel good otherwise just hammer it down and lay carpet over it.
You gotta get rid of your cat to do this you know.

Buy a front wheel drive car. Or find new friends who won't complain and just enjoy the ride in a fast car.

Wasn't that bump left over after the LT1 went away? I thought that the LS1 cars didn't have the cat where the hump is, but GM left it there rather than re-engineer the stamping process for the floor.

I could be wrong, that's just what I thought I remember reading once

You do realize your carpet's gonna be majorly lumpy, right? The carpet is press molded to accomodate that hump, and it won't fit right without it.

Too much work for such a little thing, and its going to look like someone butchered it from underneath. Just as RealDeal said, the carpet will be wrinkeld there with out it. Tell your passenger to shut it or get out

Make your passengers sit in the back seats...I'm sure they will not complain about the passenger side hump anymore.

Get a passenger that doesn't have midget legs so his feet are past the hump.

That should work. If they can even get back there. I'd leave it alone and not worry about it.
