Post What is an Ultra Z or Ultra-Z??

I've seen some SLP hoods advertised as Ultra Z and I recently saw a 97 for sale that was advertised as an Ultra Z. What the heck is an ultra Z?

There was no 4th Gen marketed or created as an "Ultra Z"?

No, it's just the name of the hood.

portion of local ad:

"30th anniversary Ultra Z-Z28. As far as ive been told, this being an Ultra Z, is very rare. 1 of 84 made in 1997."

I've asked for some documentation on this ultra z. we'll see what story is forthcoming....

You talking about this? http://stlouis.craigslist.org/cto/1442317757.html

I wouldn't give you a dime extra for it!!!!

Would have helped if you would have posted the add.

That's the one.

No response to my email for further info on the hp rating & docs verifying the "1 of 84 made".

IIRC, SLP offered an "Ultra-Z" package, but it was an aftermarket-only deal. It wasn't anything like what they did with the SS cars.

I wouldn't pay anything extra for an "Ultra-Z" car.

No response from the seller. All google turned up was hoods so doubtful there's anything on SLP's site.

There was also an Ultra-Z spoiler. It was basically a standard Camaro rear spoiler with a lip - think an SS spoiler, but at the lower height and with no posts in the middle.

I'm in Iraq right now...and actually talked to this guy since I was in the market. He talked my arm off. The car seems somewhat legitimate. He said he had all the work done at a shop near him. He said the manifolds were kept stock for it to pass emissions. I think there is a pretty aggressive cam and some head and intake work. Supposedly the place that did the work dynoed it at 435 rwhp. He said there was nearly $9000 in work done to the motor alone. Motor only has 1k on it. Who knows.

Some things I can remember being wrong with it, according to him, were: The leather on the driver side had some cracks, pass window doesn't work, needs new brakes possibly and new suspension.

Good thing is I passed it up because now I'm just about to buy a 2000 SS. Dream car.....finally!

I am hoping that I can shed a little light on this subject for you. I live outside Philly and I am a frequent visitor to Raceway Park in Englishtown, NJ. Each year SLP held a Customer Appreciation Day at the park and they hand out a goodie bag. I still have my T-shirts from most of the years.

Anyway, in 2002, while at the track, SLP was showing off some of there new H/C combos and other parts. They had a Silver/Beige Camaro that was called an Ultra-Z. The car was running in the 10's all day long. This was around mid October in NJ.

I specifically recall the cam because I had later bought the same cam for a project that I was building. The H/C package was known as the UltraZ package and the cams lift was 590. I do not recall the head numbers. SLP still sell the H/C package although it does not have a specific name anymore. If you shop there website online, you can still buy the heads and cam. The car did run with stock manifolds.

The only appearance items that I can recall were the "UltraZ" hood and tailpipes. The tailpipes are the dual rectangular, center exit tips.

I do know that you could turn your car over to SLP and they would do the whole package for you and it was labeled an UltraZ. As far as the number that was produced, I am not aware of. Best bet would be to call SLP.

Hope this helps.
