What is this part???
What is this part???
Wondering what this part was:

It looks like an emissions part but i deleted my emissions so if this is one, what can i do with it. It had a hose that connected to my TB but i have a AS&M monoblade so i blocked it off. Here is a pic of it:

And also there is a vacuum line that runs here:

what needs to be done to this? Can i remove this part. I am trying to sort out a vacuum leak or an exhaust leak that is causing a problem with split blm's and i am trying to get rid of every possibility i can think of. Any help?

Re: What is this part???
The device is the EEC (Evaporative Emissions Control) canister purge solenoid. It opens to allow intake manifold vacuum to pull air through the charcoal canister in the drivers side rear fender. The canister absorbs fuel vapor that escapes from the fuel tank. If you delete the purge, you need to vent the tank to atmosphere, and you may notice a slight increase in fuel odor at the back of the car. You will also lose any fuel savings (probably small) that you got by burning the recovered fuel vapor.
I kept the one on my car intact until it became a "track only" car. When the system wasn't operating, I got a lot of fuel smell at the drivers rear fender. Now I just sort of get high the VP Fuels C16 at the track....

One end got blocked off when i put on the monoblade so its pretty much not functioning correctly anyway...right??? I dont know maybe i just dont fully understand the functions of the device. If so, what route do you think i should take to help "access" the problem.

What part don't you understand?
When the fuel in the tank heats up, vapor comes off and the pressure in the tank starts to rise. The vapor is vented out of the tank, thru a charcoal canister. The charcoal absorbs the fuel vapor and lets the air leave the vent system.
Periodically, the purge valve opens and allows the engine vacuum to pull an air stream in thru the carbon canister, and the air picks up the stored fuel vapor. The air and vapor enters the port on the throttle body and gets burned in the combustion process.
If you no longer have a purge, eventually the charcoal in the canister will saturate with fuel vapor, and will no longer clean the stream venting from the tank. You *MAY* smell that vent at the rear of the car. The system is in the drivers side rear fender, behind a plastic panel, below the fuel fill line.
If you defeated the vacuum connection you left the system inoperative. I have fully removed all the components since they are no longer used, and I wanted the weight reduction. But its a "track only" car. I removed the purge solenoid and the bracket, and made a small polished aluminum bracket to hold the gray harness connector for the Opti harness.

Re: What is this part???
Could the vacuum line be attacted elsewere on the plenum??? That way it would still function properly, and wouldn't have to hasle with it,or does it have to feed through the TB to work? If so could enough vacuum be pulled through bellows ahead of the TB,so that the system would work.

Edit: BTW do you remember how much weight you saved by removing the entire system, wires and all?
Re: What is this part???
I'd have to go look at the throttle body and see where that vacuum port ends up. It may provide vacuum proportional to throttle opening (ported), might combine with IAC flow... not sure. I have a stock TB in the garage that I can look at.
As far as deletion... I took out the solenoid and bracket (ounces), the vacuum line and the vapor line from the fender well to the engine (ounces), and the charcoal canister in the rear fender (maybe 3 pounds???). I did not take out the wiring. I need to pull my harness out and strip it, because I have an aftermarket ECU and a lot of things have been deleted, leaving me with harness connectors all over the place. I suspect there's several pounds od unused wiring:
-MAF
-coil
-IAC module
-EGR
-AIR
-knock sensor
-AC compr
-EEC
