What is needed to install a 5 point harness?

I need to install a 5 point harness now that I'm in the 11's. What hardware do I need to order? I am going with a cam-lock design if that matters.

Thanks
Matt

Oh, and how much rollbar padding should I need for the "mandatory" parts? (Wolfe 6 point)

When you get the kit it should come with all the hardware and inst. Your going to have to drill some holes. Here are some more info on proper install. http://www.gforce.com/pdf/harnessinstall.pdf

You can use the stock mounting bolts for the lap belts, but I found with my Simpson harness that the shoulders on the stock lap mounting bolts needed to be sanded down a bit so the Simpson lap belt clips would slide over them. On the cross-bar, you need to have a clip or clips for the shoulder belt to bolt to, or you can use the "wrap" style shoulder belts. With the clips, be sure to use a Grade 8 bolt, with washers and a ny-lock nut. The crotch strap will need to be bolted through the floor, using a large fender washer under the floor. The bolt will need to be fairly long, since the floor pan of the 4th Gens is a double panel construction.

NHRA requires padding "anywhere the helmet can contact the bar". I have a piece of the high density SFI-rated padding from the mid-pont of the hoop, across behind the seat, and wrapped down to the side bar attachment point. You don't need the SFI rating for the times your are running... you can use the conventional foam padding. If your car is going to be street driven, you should pad the full hoop, providing some limited protection for your passenger seat.

Thanks Fred. Is there any way I can use my stock seat with the 5pt harness?

Its going to be a problem with the high back on the Camaro seat. On the Firebirds, the separate headrest allows the shoulder straps to fit between the seatback and the headrest. A buddy of mine with a 30th SS convertible had holes cut in his nice white leather upholstery, for the shoulder straps. Done by a quality upholstery shop, it looked like a factory setup.

With a stock seat, the crotch strap can be bolted to the floor near the front of the seat. With an aftermarket seat, the crotch strap has to be bolted to the floor behind the shoulder line.
