I've got a friend that is replacing my ac compressor because I'm clueless about ac systems. He's the type of guy that would be happy with parts money, but I want to pay him something. What is the typical cost of something like that? If I ask he will say something stupid like $10 bucks. Thanks in advance.

Are you aware of all the issues discussed in the article linked below? Are you converting from R-12? I doubt anyone here is going to know what regulations apply in Mexico? Here a technician handling R-12 (e.g. recovering it from the old system) has to be certified.

Also not sure if anyone here knows the cost of R-134a in Mexico, or the cost of labor per hour, but maybe someone will know.
