What exactly is TB bypass?

Ive seen in a lot of peoples sigs TB bypass listed as a mod... i know it has something to do with the throttle body but what exactly is it and what are the power gains associated with it?

Re: What exactly is TB bypass?

Lots of info on past posts about this.
Basically the throttle body has coolant running into it via one pipe and out through another. TB bypass basically means you bypass the throttle body and connect the two lines right into each other (TB gets no coolant then).
The supposed purpose was to prevent your throttle body from icing over in very very cold weather.

I thought it was supposed to keep the TB from getting hot since the hot coolant is going through it? When you bypass it, it's allowing the hot coolant around it so it doesn't heat the TB and cause the incoming air to be hot which would be more dense. The morsepower gains are minimal, it frees up a a few though.

Thumbs up Re: What exactly is TB bypass?

First one is for LT1 and the second one is for LS1. Basic idea is the same.

Hp gains are minimal, if any, but usually it won't hurt, either. Unless you live in very cold climate. But even then you might not have any problems at all.

On a 95 no kit should be needed, just run the hose from the drivers side to the passenger side metal tube on the valve cover and used to go to the passenger side of the TB. The clamps on the hoses are hard to get to, I have to wait to do my bypass until I take off the TB because it was pissing me off. Good luck
