I dont know so much when it comes to the deep down engine stuff,
But i was wondering what exactly does an engine rebuild consist of?
replacing pistons, crankshaft, valve springs, rockers, piston rings, boring the motor?
Is it basically reconditioning everything from the block to the heads, intake, and everything else including ignition?
I know some rebuilds are more intensive than others, but never really knew what a rebuild had to have to be called a rebuild.
Thanks

A complete rebuild (in my opinion) consists of new crankshaft, springs, rods, retainers, rockers, pistons, piston rings, all new gaskets, over boring the motor, acid washing the block, having the blocked check for imperfections (warping etc), new oil pump, new water pump, and I've heard people talking about replacing the oil pan, but that's only if it's all mangled and banged up from lowered cars bottoming out etc.
There's a really good website for rebuild kits, http://www.flatlanderracing.com/rebuildkitschevy.html.
Good luck!

Don't forget all new bearings. The stock LT1 crank and rods can be reconditioned for a "stockish" rebuild, or even with a decent power upgrade. Inspect valve train components for wear. Heads should be reconditioned with a good valve job. Boring is not an absolute requirement. Depending on cylinder bore wear, it might just require some honing.
No.... boring would be enlarging the stock bore from 4.000" to something like 4.020", 4.030", etc, for a small displacement increase, or to eliminate conditions such as being out of round, deep scores, etc.. Honing would remove minor cylinder wall irregularities, and refinish the pattern on the walls.
