What do I need to do to get to 2800 LBS?
Its your car do whatever you want with it, that what I live by.
There is a pretty comprehensive on the lt1ls1 forums tha deal with weight loss, they have a freebee section and a wallet section, you should scheck it out.
F-bodies aren't light by nature, gM made sure they put as much extra crap on them as possible thats why you see so many 383 powered F-bodies running so slow.
I've been plucking away at mine losing weight to where I can tolerate/afford it, its not an easy job but it is worth the effort.

You want to get hardcore with weight reduction, go search on www.frrax.com. Some of those guys have their 4th gens down to an honest 3k lbs. But that takes a lot of work and stripping and plasma cutting.
I'm looking for a 4th gen right now (ditched the 3rd); and I'll do as much WR as I can.
Although, I won't strip it. Things like Spare Tire, FG Hood, !A/C, !AIR, buy lightweight components, etc...
One of the biggest things I see is Wheels. Some of the most popular FBody wheels are heavier then HELL. I'll probably look into some lightweight street wheels. But those can/are expensive.

I'm slowly stripping down certain things on my '93Z, and it is kind of addictive reducing unnecessary components and such off these cars, and then there are items that you sort of kick yourself later for removing so make your decisions wisely. My '95Z is quite a bit quicker than the '93, yet there are components on it that I simply will not remove for the sake of speed, partially due to the car's condition, and also due to creature comforts while romping on the throttle.
My '93 is in sorry condition in comparison though, even though it has a rebuilt motor & tranny, it's older and not in nearly as nice of condition. The AC didn't work/had leak, smog components were old and useless, steering rack leaks, headliner sagged etc, I have shaved some weight so far, but likely not enough to make a very big difference in et.
You could also SHIFT weight to your benefit on some things, like moving your battery to the trunk, bumper support removal, k-member would be best, skinnies up front, manual seats & windows, lose the ABS & cruise control, the list goes on...

You really need to be carefull with a statment like that. You can get an F-body to 2800 lbs but I can tell you its not "cheap". In stock trim I doubt you could get it under 3000. If you want to start blowing money on light weight parts and brakes it can get to 2800 lbs
You also need to be sure you will never want to go back. If you make it race then keep it race. If you want it street the you will be a fool to rip out everything.
I took my car pretty seriously. When the motor was out I gutted the interior. I have stripped every single item not needed to go in a straight line. Yes that includes about 50 hrs of work stripping out wiring from the harnesses. Wire by wire is the best way to go. Get a factory service manual and get to work. I have deleted the HVAC, ABS, lighting, radio, BCM, factory guages ect... I built custom panels and blanks to cover the holes. Stock carpet but all sound material had been removed.
I doubt seriously if my car is under 3100. It has a 12 bolt and 8pt bar....

ABS delete kit, I would buy a race car before triying to strip down a nice car, i dont know how much you can get out of the car that its really worth it.... the only nice thing about weight reduction is that it is free
