are the trans am's ws6's??? or is it firebird, formula, trans am, and ws6???

To answer your question there is a Formula, a Trans Am, then a Trans Am WS6(there was also a Formula WS6, and we can't forget the V6 Firebird or of course the Firehawk). The only difference between a Formula and a Trans Am is the ground fx and spoiler package. Everything else that is non cosmetic is exactly the same. The WS6 package was available on both the Formula and Trans Am(although only available on the Formula til 99' or 00' I think, I don't know all the details on that) and all it consisted of was a slightly more performance oriented suspension package(I think) and just the Ram Air package(much like the difference in a Z28 and an SS Camaro). Also WS6's got upgraded to 17 wheels instead of the regular 16 inch, which also was an aid in handling performance. I believe that's all besides the badging and stuff. Although the WS6 was supposed to have a slight edge over just a regular TA, both cars were very very consistant with each other. WS6 was just GM's code for the package, so it was aptly named that.

Without owning one myself I can't vouch for sure. But my understanding is it's just kinda a pain to remove the airbox everytime you want to do something to the motor. Your always having to take it off, put it on, etc. IMO it would be much easier to just have a CAI and be done with it. There have been long drawn out debates as to if CAI or Ram Air is better, since they're both similar it's just go with what you want. I know a couple people with factory Ram Air hoods that got rid if the air box and went CAI, but kept the cool "look" of the hood. Just made things easier for them.

What would you be doing to the engine that would require removing a WS6 airbox? Its completely over the radiator support, and doesn't block the engine at all. In the remote case that you wanted to remove it, there are two screws into the radiator cover that need to be removed. SS might be a problem, but not the WS6?????

I have never regretted getting the SLP hood and airbox.

I agree, I'm a sucker for SS and WS6 from the LT1 F-body. Great looking cars! Not sure if the hoods actually *do* anything but they look outstanding nontheless.

I would just get the CAI, the factory ram-air boxes really can't be that good, especially if SLP (who made the modifacations to the car) offers the CAI for the WS6 in that year (if im not mistaken).
