What is the correct color for my car?

I hope this is the correct place to post this. I have a 96 Z28/SS. It seems like all of the red Gen 4 Z28's that I ever saw, were black on top. However the supplemental owners manual for the SS shows red on red. The 96 SS dealer brochure shows red on red. My car has a black top but if it came from the factory like that, it has to be one of the worst factory paint jobs ever. The door tag says BC/CC U 8774. Does that tell me if it was supposed to have a black roof? How can I tell? Thanks.

Does the service parts tag show D82? That was the code for monochromatic roof paint, a zero cost option. That option made the roof the same color as the body. Do you have t-tops? In the first couple years all t-tops had the black roof, as well as all Z28's. D82 was added in 1995. Not sure if that was permitted with the R7T SS option.

Yup, I have the D82 code. So my roof was supposed to be red. Correct? BTW. No T-Tops.
