20-40 degree start up it maks a weird crackling, grinding, metalic sound that goes away when the engine warms up. I thought it might be the oil pump, but gonna check the oil for metal next time i change the oil.

I'm using 10w30 right now, gonna do 5w30 next oil change.

 

Mine made a weird buzzing noise this morning at 25*. Didn't sound like grinding or cackling though.

Power steering pump?

 

My car sounded the exact same way this morning but it went away within a few seconds. I had the same thought that is was power steering pump, but its not low.

 

Mine isn't low either, and this is the first winter I've had the car. One of our minivans does the same thing, and the sound eventually goes away after it warms up. hmmmm

 

Same here. Mines been hard to crank up in the cold weather. It makes a weird sound and then goes away. It takes cranking it a few times before it will idle out and warm up. But once I get it going for the day it doesn't give me anymore problems.
