Weight reduction...

What are the best things to permenantly remove, still keeping the car practical?
What things are best to remove at, or just before the track?

Re: Weight reduction...

well start wth easy things like the spare and jack. more difficult you could remove the layer of tar stuf under the carpet or any other padding under there. at the track id say remove all the seats and any other lil misc interior thing you think you can take off.

Take out the backseat and seat belts... need a Torx 45 for that. Bumper supports if you're hardcore and wanna risk having your car messed up bad in an accident.

Re: Weight reduction...

My rear seats and seatbelts are long gone.
Jack and spare are obvious.
Drain wiper fluid, 1/4 tank of gas.
I'll pull out whatever padding I can. Isn't the padding glued to the carpet on the underside?

Putting the driver on a diet (or maybe bariatric surgery ) might be a good idea. A recent report says most of us are about 25 lbs. heavier that our contemporaries were in the 60s muscle car area. I was driving back then, and the 25 lbs. might be conservative for me!

Depending on whether you are drag racing or road racing, removing the non-essentials especially on the front makes sense. I'm not too sure about the 2 quarts of washer fluid, but it can't hurt.

It's not just wieght, but weight distribution that counts. Relocating the battery to the rear corner of the trunk makes a couple percent change in distribution because you are removing weight from in front of the front wheels and placing it behind the rear wheels.

For dragging, lighter weight front wheels/tires help in weight reduction and reduced rotating inertia.

Re: Weight reduction...

rotating mass is about an 8:1 ratio...

so go from a 17lb steel driveshaft to an 11lb aluminum, and you technically just lost 48 pounds.

Re: Weight reduction...

1.Tubular K-member and A-arms is good for approx 45 lbs
2. Delete A/C, another 45-50 lbs
3. aftermarket front seats, another 20-25 lbs depending on brand.

There is a member website that has the weight of practically every item on an F-body. Will try to find it when I get home this evening and post it for you. Good luck!

Re: Weight reduction...

About the battery....wouldn't you want it to be relocated to the left rear? I would think this because the car torques clockwise on launch I believe?

Re: Weight reduction...

The last two times I went to the track I took out...

- jack
- spare
- trunk cover
- floor mats

...and it didn't do squat.

Like has been mentioned here many times, a good rule of thumb is a .10th for every 100 lbs. lost. So it would be hard to notice anything from the weight you shaved. Just add some other reduction to it and you'll prolly see some gains from it.

Re: Weight reduction...

Passenger seat, sub, amps, head unit, spare tire, jack, rear cargo area cover, floor mats, carpet padding, drain windshield washer fluid, 1/4 tank of gas. Am I missing anything simple?
