Want to fix my shot a/c

My a/c compressor seized up I think or something like that. It turned red hot when it was running and I was wondering what I have to do to fix my system?

Do i need anything besides a new compressor? Can i just swap em, flush the system best as I can, and then get it refilled?

Re: Want to fix my shot a/c

you could just swap compressors, but that probably wouldn't be wise for the health of the new compressor.

to do it by the book, you also need to change out the drier (the silver canister) and the orifice tube (or whatever it's called on f-bods). these two parts act as filters, and collect junk from your ac system. it seems silly to replace them, but they are fairly cheap (compared to the compressor) and are vital to the system. my brother got cheap and didnt replace them, and his reward was a dead compressor 2 months later.

make sure you oil up your compressor before installing it, and after putting the new parts on, drive it to a shop and have it vacuumed out and charged. you could charge the compressor yourself, but there will be air in the system.
