Want to do something with my antenna

I was wondering if I could do anything cool with my antenna, right now it is just the standard long one and I think it is a little too plain for the aggressive looking car.

Ive seen one camaro where their antenna was tied in a knot and I thought it looked terrible (What kind of person would tie their antenna into a knot?) I've also a power one, and Ive seen a short one.

I was wondering if I should buy a short one off of ebay? Has anyone done it and how is its reception and how does it look?

I was also considering making a power antenna and am wondering if it will work with my car?

Does anyone have any other ideas?

I saw one that was formed in the shape of a Chevy bow tie. I still prefer my power antenna though.

i just cut my stock antenna to the lenght that is level with the top of the roof.

i think it looks great, simple and free. i havn't noticed a difference in reception either.

Re: Want to do something with my antenna

My Antenna fell off and I still noticed no difference in sound on most of the stations I listened to. But it definitely affected the weaker stuff in the area. I got lucky and scored a power antenna from a Trans-am for free and wired in a switch to control it which is great since I listen to CD's 90% of the time anyway.

Re: Want to do something with my antenna

I forget what it's called, but there is a little screw with a flat cap that fits the antenna perfect and flushes it down smooth with the mount. Paint one of those black and you've got it made. Weaker stations won't pull in, but the stronger ones will be fine.

If I were you, I'd get a power antenna from a Firebird. I'd also install a switch (mine is in the ashtray) that lets you keep the antenna down if you want to. I drive with mine down all the time and radio reception is fine in town. Plus, I don't need the antenna sticking up if I'm listening to CD's. It's a good clean look.

I'd love to do an internal antenna behind the body panel and then just shave the antenna mount. But, that's a bit overboard unless it's a show car.

If you do end up cutting your antenna, make sure that it is the same height as the roof. If it is shorter or higher, it looks worse.

I bought a short 14" antenna on ebay. It looks alot better, and i get the same reception. I think it was worth the $15. Check out the pics of my car on cardomain if you wanna see what it looks like.

I also want to do someting with my antenna eventually. I saw a blue Z28 with a billit short antenna, probably about 14-18" and it looked real good. My car does need a paint job though, I might just wait and shave the damn thing

Re: Want to do something with my antenna

Is it possible to replace the standard antenna to a power antenna on a 3rd gen Camaro?
